I may not get an answer to this question, but here goes. I have a 2001
36' Travel Supreme DSO 1. Purchased 6 months from new.A super nice motorhome, rides nice, runs good, all in all a well built coach.
As in years past, it was time to reseal the sealant on the roof. I was not looking toward doing this again, so I decided to remove all the old sealer and replace it with Eternabond . The job went well. Now to the question. As many times as I have been up onto the roof ,I never noticed that the roof does not have a curve to it. The roof is FLAT !! As I looked around at the other motorhomes to compare the roofs is when I realized that mine was flat. Was this a design flaw or is it supposed to be this way.
Thanks Robert

MANY motorhomes have FLAT roofs. Our 89 GBMC has a flat roof. It all depends on the manufacturer.

I rebuilt the roof and added a curve to it for better drainage. That was after the old rubber roof went bad. Part my fault, part previous owners fault.

Our "newer" 98 Overland has a slight curve to it.

Both types are fine, just be sure to keep up with the maintainence.

Our 2002 Monaco had a flat roof, too. Keep her sealed and you should stay nice and dry. The only problem I had was leaking around one of the air conditioners. I re-torqued the four bolts and solved the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I was not aware that the roofs on some were flat.
I will rest easier now. Thanks

Why would any RV manufacture design a flat roof when they know drainage and run-off are so important? Here's another design mystery.... Why would an RV manufacture not design the roof so there is no seam on top to leak? Place the seam on the side about 6" down from the top and overlap.

Go look up prices for TPO or EPDM. The narrower rolls are cheaper to buy. Plus, it is easier to get an 8' wide piece straight across an 8' wide roof and laid down flat without bubbles.

Using an 8'-6" wide piece and laying it down straight over a 30, 35 or 40' long rv roof is tuff. Remember, these things are built on an assembly line, not one by one. Time is money.

Hell, even the car makers have gone to a roof setup where they use a piece for the roof that is seamed to the side panels. Cheaper and easier to build. The older cars have the roof, side panels and rear fenders as one piece. Material costs again.

Just my 2 cents worth.
