Securing the Refrigerator for Travel

Hi,
We are new owners of a 2006 TS Select with a GE Profile French Door Style Refrigerator. On our first outing we had to prop something in front of the refrigerator to keep the door from opening. How do you secure the doors?

I use a cord wrap bungee around the handles on mine. Traveled to the west coast and back with no problems

Are you saying that the previous owner had installed a French door fridge and never had provided any means to keep the doors secured while traveling?

If so that's amazing!

Anyway, I use a 14 inch Velcro strap to secure the French doors and use a small L bracket with a drop in pin to secure the freezer drawer.

Been using those methods since April 2012 without any problems.

We use a ball bungee. Simple, cheap, easy, and works.

I have a Samsung French door and we secure it with a bungee cord successfully. Simply fasten an anchor on each side of refrigerator at low end of freezer handle for the bungee ends. Thread cord thru bottom side of freezer handle up thru both refrigerator handles then down thru freezer handle and over to side anchors(I used small hooks that screwed into cabinet frame) I would include picture-but MH is 350 miles away right now.

GE Profile, Simple to make... simple to use ...1"x 1/8" aluminum strap from any hardware, etc. Slides down and stops at rubber grip on back of handle.

The original method to secure the refrigerator double doors on our 2005 Travel Supreme 45 ft. is to use a wood constructed piece that fits above the doors and secures (locks) the two doors together.

This is what is on our side by side res fridge now.

But on my previous Redwood 5'ers triple door, I wondered how the ham and cheese ended up in the bottom freezer on our first trip when the factory did NOTHING to secure it !

So I did the velcro for the double doors and bungee cord for the bottom freezer.

We use a strap around the handles of the Samsung 3 door and child safety locks on the freezer. The safety locks stick to the front and side of the freezer and snap closed. The safety locks have been working very well for 3 years. When the frig is unlocked the strap is snapped around the steering wheel as a reminder.

Securing the Refrigerator for Travel

We use stainless boat bumper hangers on each side of the door and a strap between the two. Have one for top double doors and one for bottom drawer. Different strokes for different folks. Adds added stability to refrigerator while in motion too.

That's kind of what I use on my double door Jenn Air refer. I found a piece of scrap plywood at a friends house on the way back from a GS rally in Phoenix in 2015. Had him cut a slot in it about ½" wide and slide it over the door handle. It works so well I haven't bothered to even make a better looking one.
