Starting battery wiring up front?

I am installing a gauge that shows both battery bank voltages on the dash. Do anyone know of a source of starting battery voltage close to the dash? I imagine the ignition switch, but not even sure about that, and a little reluctant to tap into it.

We have a 2005 41 ME.

I have looked at a bunch of components I thought it would make sense to have the Starting/chassis battery power, but so far no luck. Figured I would just ask since there is a bunch of knowledge here and someone might have already done this project. My alternative is to run a three wire from the electrical bay where the solenoids are located.

What led me to this project was realizing that the solenoids for battery connections on our coach were somewhat bastardized. The one for battery starting boost was just bypassed and the positives were connected full time. The coach sales man switch relay was very hot and seems to draw a lot of juice all the time when on.

I set both up with latching relays. This way I can disconnect the starting battery when parked, but charge house batteries when engine running. And no draw from coach relay when on, which is most of the time.

Having a display in the dash that shows voltages would be nice so I can easily monitor what is going on and if both are charging when they should or are getting low.

You can wire into any source that gets its power from the chassis battery with the ignition switch off. In my case I had two “cigarette” style receptacles on the dash that are from house power. I tapped into one of these and installed a gauge so I could easily see the status of those batteries at any time.

Not familiar with your particular coach, but many times there are sources of switched power at the fuse panel. Either an unused power tap or one that you can split off to the voltmeter. Good luck.
