Thanks for the post Bob, every bit helps.
As posts grow I may move to first post in thread to keep everything together.
Some will make comments of thanks but IT will also spread additional adds and get lost in the mix of threads.
Help! I have alternator trouble. A truck mechanic installed a new Wilson 160 amp Alternator #90047070. The problem i have is that they way he wired it, it charged but was excited all the time. Therefore there was a tremendous drain on the batteries. I have searched for a wiring diagram but have not been able to solve the problem. It has a the two larger cables. One being positive (12 volts all the time) the other is the negative. It has an internal regulator. There are 3 orther smaller wires. A red wire that should connect to the terminal marked to the switch. Normally this would excite the unit once the key is on i believe. The second wire is a purple wire that is the sensing wire which should connect to the other small. Here is the problem. Coming out of the other side of the plug that connects the two smaller wires is a red wire with a larger end that fits on the larger posts. He had that wire connected to the positive cable which sent 12 volt to the alt at all times. Hence the major drain. I took the new alternator and had it tested at a shop. It tested still working. Can anyone help me. I need to get this figured out quickly if possible. I have tried to get a mobile mechanic to come out but none are available.
