I'm leaving in one week for Indiana to have cross bracing installed at Precision Painting. I have broken two windshields so far.

Shoot, what do you need to know? If you have a travel supreme with a k2 chassis it needs x bracing if it has not been done. A few of the last ones had it factory installed, but not many. It will keep your windshields from popping out and/or breaking. It will also make it ride and drive better and will stabilize the chassis and front end.

Hey, Gene. That's what I thought. I had the factory do my bracing just before they shut down, thinking I was all set. But a couple months ago I developed ANOTHER crack in the lower LH corner of the drive'r side. After talking with Precision, I understand they now add a couple of 45 deg. braces from the floor at front of the basement, extending upwards to the two main frame rails, offering additional support for the cantilevered section of the frame rails. Makes perfect sense to me...I guess no one thought of this in the early phases of designing re-bracing for this chassis.
To my knowledge, this is a "Precision" fix and others are not doing this. I may be wrong, but this is what I was told at Precision.

I just purchased my '06 TS Select and love it BUT I also just had both windshields pop out in less than 4,000 miles of travel! Have I bought into something that I'm going to regret. I love this coach yet this is my first and am afraid I might have been screwed. I have been told that the guys at Precision in Ind are the best at fixing the problem. Of the people who have had this done, have you heard of any which continue to have problems? Thanks for any help you may give me, I'm new at this!!

Thanks, I need some up lifting at this point, not sure I made a good decision. We are in Indiana and went to Maine and back this summer and to Tenn. I truely think I caused the ws to pop in my drive at home, temps were in the 100's and the coach was parked in such a way that it was twisting it from front to rear/ beginners stupidity. Can you tell me approx the cost of the bracing, I'd heard around 6-7000

We actually did 3 in our shop, so I am guessing around $2,000.00 should go a long ways. It will make the coach better to drive and when you level the coach you will notice that the cabinets squeak a lot less

In addition to installing the full cross-bracing modification, Precision Painting added a modification to the holding device that secures the windshield vertical center bar located inside the compartment above the windshield. It has been reported that most of the center bars become loose allowing the windshield halves to be able to have movement. Precision Painting may also recommend that the windshields be removed and re-installed by their expert after the installation of the cross-bracing.
I have experienced no issues with my windshield glass since Precision Painting performed the modifications.
I have no personal involvement with Precision Painting but I can state with a high degree of certainty that each owner of a Travel Supreme RV that visits Precision Painting will be totally satisfied with their work. Their personnel seems to know Travel Supreme RV's and seem to be capable of modifying, repairing, replacing, and painting all aspects of the MH. In addition, they have spaces for locating the MH that has 50 Amp. AC power and water that they allow the customer to use for free during the time required to complete the repairs. There is at least one free-to-use dump site on the company's property. I found them to be very knowledgeable, friendly, and completes the work in an expeditious manner.
The cost for the cross-bracing is about $2500.00. I don't know if there are any added costs. However, one could telephone Paul Conley, Service Manager, tele. no. 574-546-4473, and determine the actual total cost .

I havent had the problem yet in about 10,000 miles (coach has 60,000) but I try to be careful and take my time.....But here's what I am thinking
Shouldn't Spartan offer plans to K2 owners because it is their chassis and wouldn't it help with customer relations and future purchases?

Sue, Spartan's chassis is designed to have some "give" in it to minimize stress at connection points, I do believe. Now if a coach builder decides to install something over it that is subject to damage with flexure, it is up to the coach builder to beef up the original design to suit their application. Now, if coach builders indeed want a "rigid" chassis, I would expect Spartan could build it for them. But I don't believe that's the case, because some of the other coach builders don't have near the issues that TS did. Bottom line....it's simply a matter of one entity specifying to the other what is wanted and they can build it. I suspect TS didn't ask for any mods because, initially, they weren't aware of these issues. When they became aware, it was about the time they went out of business. Just my humble opinion......

I had a windshield pop and the local repair person in Seattle said the problem is the windshield is not set and secured properly. The windshield floats on 3 sides and is anchored on the side. He said that a much stronger sealant is needed than manufacturers and most repair people use. He replaced mine and is is still secure 2 1/2 years later. Much cheaper that questionable cross bracing. Slabman is correctamundo, Spartan built the chassis and had no control of the box on it. Just like a boat...no flex, broken hull. Fine line of engineering. I recently talked to a Safelite rep that had many years in the industry and new of all the problems with coach mfg's. His take was bad install of oversized glass in too small of a hole. Grind glass, use the right adhesive, the rubber will take the flex.
The fibreglass is flexible too. I have been in places where frongt tires hit the inside well and never had a problem. I am careful we are not driving our gramma's '53 Buick, pulling an Airstream. We drive 38' plus straights and there is flex. Bridge spans flex too, they are designed that way. NufSayd
