Smile Windshield fix

We were heading back up North along the I-5 bucking a head wind near Stockton, Ca when it got real windy inside the RV. The windshield popped out of the gasket on the top drivers side corner. We limped to the next exit and with a ladder and duct tape we secured the window. Looking a lot like Cousin Eddie!s unit on Christmas Vacation we made our way North to Coburg, Or.

Fortunately it stayed dry all the way and we found an RV park very the RV Glass Solutions facility in Coburg. They sent a Tec over to secure the glass to keep the rain out, which started the night of our arrival. We booked the coach in the next day and 24 hours later we were on our way. We were extremely impressed with the treatment we received at RV Glass Solutions and the professional workmanship performed on our coach. Great people with a massive facility.

If you need glass work done in the Pacific Northwest head to RVGlass Solutions in Coburg, Or.

By the way, the gasket replacement I had done in Mesa the year before to fix a leak had no adhesive applied and that's why the windshield popped out.

Dave..
May also be indicative of coach needed "X" bracing.. Read on the forum about that.. Not sure "Glue" itself is going to fix it!
Good luck..
I have a 40DS04 an 04 with no "X" bracing but also no issues yet!

If you guys have the MountainMaster chassis like I do we seem to be immune to the frame flex problem causing windshield pop out and the need for x-bracing. That problem seems to be reserved for the K2 and K3 guys.

Glad you were able to get it properly fixed. If you don't mind, give us the name of the shop in Mesa that did the glue-less seal replacement. Might help someone avoid them in the future!

I agree the larger rigs with the K2 chassis seem to need the X-bracing more, but I have read a few complaints over the years about this problem on the smaller rigs. The other issue that has come up more recently is the upper mount of the windshield center support (between the glass) breaking free from the fiberglass cap, causing the glass to move and pop out. This might be something worth checking, although I would like to think the glass installer would have noticed something like that.

We have a 2005 38d03 and windshield issues. Just had a new seal installed, glued, then windows glued. Our center post was completely lose as well. We had X bracing done after 4 window pops since Nov. sure hope this works!

Janine,

I'd be pretty comfortable that fixing the center support and the addition of X-bracing will be more than adequate to solve any flexing issues on a 38' model. Did you notice any difference in the ride after the work was done?

Yes, do not feel crosswinds like we did nor large trucks passing. Coastal RV below Charleston, SC did a super job! They worked with Paul at Precision. It's not a full X bracing like the larger coaches. They fiberglassed the center beam so maybe it will not work lose again. Like vet the coach, it's quality made. All have their issues, hope this is solved! Thank you.

RVGlass Solutions in Coburg, Or. Excellent!!! Have been their 2 time in the past 7 years, for replacements. They do have hook up, 50 amps and water, but a little secret, "clean out drain" near by. We stayed 4 days, no problems. Rocks & lifting in a twist, nothing to do with X bracing 2007 Envoy 42,with Mountain master chassis. Wild Plum pies in Harrisburg, Or (close by ) is excellent and Coburg Pizza, is fantastic. As many of you know we had our refer replaced in Harrisburg, last summer, by Elite RV. another excellent company, replacing the refer is the best thing I have done to the rig. Safe travels to all

Thank you for the wonderful travel information! Do you have excess wind noise from the door area? We know it's the door since the drivers side is so quiet. The coach is very quiet excep for this issue. There is a rod coming from the door that goes into a slot on the frame and it's seems stationary. Our seals look to be in excellent condition. We had new glass tile installed in the bathroom sink area yesterday new wallpaper going into the commode room, re uphostry of dining chairs just general updating the coach. Love it, just hope the window situation is in the past!

The 2013 work was done by Arizona RV Specialists in Mesa, I posted last year about all the trouble I had under the title "Winshield Woes". My fears were clearly well founded!

Thanks to all who posted their comments and experience. I had spoken to Precision and the feed back I received was that the Mountain Master chassis (40's) generally do not require the X bracing. So my rig does not have it. RV Glass Solutions did find the centre windshield post to be loose at the top which they fixed with the reinstall of our windshield. Obviously a loose centre post and no use of adhesives resulted in our recent excitement. We are all good now!
Safe travels to all!

I found this in another discussion. Search door wind noise and you will find it.

There is an air actuated wedge latch that draws the top of the door in to prevent wind noise. My wires were loose causing it to engage the wedge latch when the coach was started. If the door was open when you started the coach, it wedged the door out causing the wind noise. The proper way is for the actuator to engage when the parking brake is turned off and your door must be closed. My problem was just a wire unhooked under the dash. It's quite as a mouse now! I hope this helps!
