Winterizing

The water tank drain outlet on our 2005 40 DSO 4 is at the lower side of the tank which means the water tank does not drain completely. It appears the tank still has an inch or so left in the tank. Is there another way to drain the remainder of the water or is it okay to leave this small amount in the tank? It freezes hear in the Great White North.

Try parking it on a slope to increase the tilt to the drain. You might be able to put a narrow hose down the water fill and pump it out. Is the connection for the water pump on the bottom of the tank? You could maybe just pump it out. If the tank has a round bottom, freezing shouldn't be an issue, the expansion of the ice will not put pressure on the sides of tank.

How about using the leveling jacks to tip the coach in the direction of the drain? The more water you remove the less anti-freeze you'll need.

And don't forget the spray nozzle for the toilet. No need to ask why I thought of that .

When I empty the tank I park on a slope as Bob (Bflinn181) suggested and pretty much get all the water out. If you don't have a sloped area, using the jacks as Gary described will work, but work the jacks in pairs so you don't twist the frame too much.

Bob, Travel Supreme's do not have a large water fill inlet. Filling the FW tank is accomplished by repositioning a valve that aligns the normal water hookup hose to the supply/drain fitting on the bottom of the tank.

I was just tossing out various strategies that might work. Another would be to leave the low point drains open and take a couple of loops around the block in both directions. Enough water should slosh out to reduce a chance of the small bit of water freezing and bursting the tank. It's not like putting a full bottle of water in the freezer, an inch of water in a plastic tank probably won't do any damage upon freezing.
