X-bracing DIY post with photos

I finally just finished up the blog post I've been working on for several months with steps and photos to do your own X-bracing. I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement over my process, but it works well and after several months and lots of rough roads and boondocking we've had no more issues with the front window popping out. It cost less than $250 in steel, and takes a few hours and a competent welder.

Just my two cents. That is not all there is to the cross bracing. one goes in the bays one goes in behind generator and there are new connectors for the bottom rail to the upper rail back behind basement as well as crosess under the bottom rails below the basement. and new rails parrell with lower rails welded to new connectors
Thanks

Thanks Rick, I just learned about the one behind the generator, seems like it should be an easy enough spot to get to. Does anyone happen to have photos for the connectors behind the basement, I've only ever seen the basement center brace and I'd like to see what additional work there is. Looks like I have another project for when we get back to San Diego this winter!

Judging by the photos that Rick sent, it looks like Bishop does a lot more than the center basement X-brace as part of the full package, at least on the 45' rigs.

They install a much larger lower frame rail along the length of the basement along the existing rail, and add diagonal braces between these.

Then the flimsy factory braces in front of the rear wheel is removed and a large bracket is fitted in it's place. I actually added an additional upright brace in this same area when I noticed that the factory brace was cracked, but I didn't include it in the blog post since I didn't realize that this was part of the package. Photos at 2012.02.24 RV Cross Bracing

Then an additional X-brace is added upright in front of the rear axle, and another X-brace upright behind the genset.

Thanks to Rick for the additional information, and the photos of the bracing on his rig. It definitely makes Bishop's $1500 price tag start to look like a really good deal for the amount of time it takes!

Rick's photos are posted here, showing the additional bracing performed by Bishop:

Hey Rick.....noticed an open J-box in one of those shots. Better get to a qualified "sparkie" to fix!

Anybody ever use Precision in Brenen?

Was wondering if anybody has ever used Precision Paint in Brenen IN for the X Bracing and additional structural reinforcement?

Precision has an excellent plan for x-bracing that includes one brace up toward front on a 45 degree angle that I've not seen others do. They also use nice big tubing for bracing. I had mine done elsewhere before I discovered Precision.....so sad.

After researching the forum I've scheduled an appt August 2 with Paul and his team at Precision to have the X Bracing done and any other structural reinforcement for my Select. If anybody has anything other thoughts I may wish consider, I'd appreciate hearing them. Since I'm going to be in Bremen if there may be other issues to inspect I'll have them do it. Thanks
