10% Grade
Coming out of Jackson Wyoming, headed to Idaho requires a 10 % grade. Best I was able to do was 25 mph. Got a few cars stacked up behind me. At least I didn't have to slow down for the suggested 20mph turns.

If I was making that trip ( Jackson towards Idaho Falls?)with my DP I would use the road that follows the South Fork of the Snake River...longer, probably quicker and no hills. Were you relying on a GPS?

When we went over that pass we were forced to because the one on the South Fork was flooding.

i have taken some steep grades and yes, with a big drop in speed. I remember our gasser where I was tempted to convince my wife to get out and push. Unknown to me, she was tempted to step out to stake a few pictures while walking alongside the coach. OK, I might be stretching the facts a bit, but the bottom line is, it is just part of the adventure. Enjoy the drive. BTW, the Jake brakes are awesome going down such grades.

Would have been nice to have an engine brake going down but we had a '97 Type C MH towing a '95 Honda Odyssey on a dolly. Luckily the dolly had surge brakes, even so they were burned up and had to rebuild them.

Glad we were going the other way - and that you made it up and down safely. Enjoy the rest of your trip - maybe we'll see you again along the road.

Yes, the GPS did pick the route. It was a fairly quick up one side and down the other side route. Good news was that the 2 stage engine brake did most of the braking with just minor assist from the coach brakes. Rick, enjoyed our conversation and look forward to our paths crossing again.

We did that same route three weeks ago. How funny is that. I will not do that route again. It was definitely pushing the engine to the max. I didn’t want to pull over and let anyone pas, because I didn’t think I would be able to get back to speed. It’s nice to know that 25 mph was all you were able to do too. My engine temp got up to 203 and the engine brake did great on the downhill.

Exactly where and what highways have this 10% grade - and what us the bypass? We are going to be in that area for the first time in a couple weeks. Thanks.

Wyoming Hwy 22, AKA "Teton Pass"
Not recommended for large vehicles.
Did it daily for a week in the toad, did it once in a 36' gasser.
Lots of truck runoff areas, most will be "in use" on any particular day.

What RPM was showing with your engine brake on?

Two years ago when we were in that area, we elected to stay in Victor, Idaho and go over the pass to get to Jackson Hole via our Dodge Ram. We did it several times and we are glad we were in the toad. You Cornerstone folks might not have a problem, but I'm sure an Anthem or Aspire would struggle a bit. But ... struggle as they may, they will make it!

The bypass is US 189 South out of Jackson, then US 26 into Idaho. It is a beautiful drive, slightly farther but much flatter.

X2 we have friends that live in Victor ID and drive to Jackson everyday for their business. They said NOT to take 22 with your MH. Being they were locals we took Marc's route. Beautiful scenery, no white knuckles.
22 is a well traveled road for the people of Jackson that cannot afford to live in Jackson.
