Mobley ordered

I just called 855-884-9945 and the rep who answered was able to help so no transferring to anyone, application and confirmation emails took about 30 minutes. He said it would ship priority mail and should arrive in 3 to 5 business days.

Rick said he nor his supervisor weren’t authorized to waive the activation fee, he suggested calling customer service after I receive the Mobley device and ask for waiver. I will try that.

Good to know. Never had an issue streaming video (i.e. Netflix or such) while still being on the phone for other uses (FaceBook, voice, texting).

I will save that $20/month and buy what I really want: Bulldog Powered A-Frame 3500 jack!

Thanks, everyone.... again, just doing my "due diligence."
Not sure why other Verizon users cannot use data and voice at the same time but I do that all the time. Maybe it depends on type phone they have.

I should have my device in a couple of days.

I went with the 2 year plan, so the device is free. They said they would waive the activation fee as I've been an AT&T customer forever.

I'll comeback here and let you guys know how it turns out once I have the device.

Whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Could have been done in 3 had I quit asking questions!

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

Matt D, love your step-by-step instructions

Mobley arrived a few days after I posted my comments above.

Last night I finally had a chance to get it activated. Activation online was a no go, so had to call the support number. The first time I just talked the Robo operator for activation. This didn't work. Had to call back and talk to a real human. About 30 minutes later, my new Mobley was working. Just as a note. . . I thought the girl helping me spent way too much time trying to sell me AT&T Fiber Optic internet, and Uverse TV!

Now that I've got this thing there's one thing I wish I'd known before I purchased. The Auto Shut off feature is annoying. It was originally set to 30 minutes, and I changed it to 2:00 hours. There is no longer a "Never Shutoff" option as of firmware update 1.0.3 .

Been searching the internet all morning looking for a solution. Some say use the Amazon Adapter. Well I'm using the Amazon adapter, but the USB version. Maybe that's the problem.

Others say to just pull the SIM card and put it in a NetGear Unite Explore hotspot. But AT&T now locks the SIM. This leads to discussions of PUKs and PINs in SIMs and no clear advice on how to obtain or change any of these.

This was not what I thought I was signing up for.

Sorry.. . a little frustrated and just needed to vent!

If anyone has clear advice on how to resolve the 2 hour time out. . . I'm all ears!

Done!

I got lucky and landed a knowledgeable AT&T Rep on the first call.

Took all of ten minutes which would have been much less if not for possibly the thickest accent I've ever heard. Nice bloke, though. Once done and you have the order number and confirmation by email; ask to be transferred to regular customer service. They can strike any activation fees on the spot. This might require that you have an existing AT&T wireless account or some other requirement but it worked for me.

Thanks to OP and everyone who has added information on this deal.

For as much as you are getting for $20. a month, I sure wouldn't complain about an activation fee. Verizon even charged that for my new phone and I am a 20 year customer.

The problem is the power adapter you are using, if you have a multimeter check the output voltage between pin 16 and pin 4 or 5 (in 4 and 5 are the 2 middle pins on the top row of the OBDII connector when viewed as the longer row at the top, pin 16 is one of the end pins of the bottom row, bottom left when viewing the Mobley I think, so bottom right on the adapter).

If you measure below about 12.5 - 12.7 VDC VDC under idle load it will time out and shut down, ideally you want to see over 13.2VDC under operation in order to tick the Mobley into thinking it is in a running vehicle. A lot of older 12VDC power adapters really output 13-14VDC under light load so those will work, the problems is these newer ones that put out precisely 12.0VDC.

There is some discussion of this in this thread $20 AT&T Unlimited Plan is Back.

Sorry I can't help with store bought power adapters, I build my own

We are full timers and use St. Brendanís Isle (Green Cove Springs FL) as a mail forwarding company. We tired several work arounds but none worked. Did any other full timers using St Brendanís Isle have the same issue when ordering the Mobley?
Decided not to give up so easily. After a couple redials got an agent that knew what I was talking about. This time when asked for address gave them everything as before except the PMB number. Then 10 minutes later all done. I guess the PMB confuses their system.

Success! Called back just now and got "Joe". Spoke very concise English. Knew what I was talking about and everything. Got it going and to be shipped Monday.
What a difference from last night! Waived all fees and taxes when doing the 2 yr deal. And the fact that we are long time AT&T cell customers...

By the way, he said they are all of a sudden getting a bajillion calls wanting these...

Turns out the SIM card number in the AT&T "system" is different from the SIM card number on the actual card. So I get this straightened out and finally I'm connected. Another hour.

According to that video at 5:08, this is a common issue. If I remember correctly, the video says to go to their website for an article about this and how to resolve that - but you probably will be calling AT&T to resolve that before activating the Mobley.

Thank you for this tip, I will be sure to check it.

I may do this as well, have a router that supports its WAN via usb/lte.

What router model do you have?

Also, what about the Mobley going to sleep?

Activation Fee BS

If you have an existing ATnT account (phones, or whatever) ask to speak directly to the "Loyalty Dept." Don't let THEM do it for you, ask to speak to them direct. A rep and her supervisor today both told me that the Loyalty Dept wouldn't waive the activation fee . . . the supervisor told me, you can speak directly to them, but they'll tell you the same thing. I said "Great! Let me talk to them!" . . . Supervisor was now stuck, he connected me, they said "But of Course! For you, and just this one time (and every other time I've added a device or extra line), we will waive the two activation fees (I bought two Mobley's) of $30.00 each, for a total of $60.00.

Brobox, I understand what you are saying about the good deal, but I'm not paying ATnT their $30.00 instant profit activation fee for them to take my call. Maybe if I hadn't had to speak with 7 different people, two calls, and 1 hour and 45 minutes on the phone, but why pay it if you don't have to?
