2017 Cornerstone ordered and in need of sage advice
This is Debbie and Ralph and thanks for your support and advice on hooking up with Angie and Brett at National Indoor R V Centers. It was painless and we had a great time. We are to expect delivery May-June time frame so prep for the "Baby Cradle" here in Louisiana has obviously accelerated and I need help. We plan to build a home base on some land we have here in the Lake Charles area and I am interested in picking your great minds on construction of a pad/ RV port and Hoot sewer or mechanical system..we have water and 220 50 amp service on site. For now, we need to construct the RV Port rather quickly. We are outside City limits and self gated in the woods/ wetlands on about 2 acres. Debbie has delegated this task to me I am resourceful..and need "Help"!

Do you have or plan to have a house on the property or will the RV be your "house"? Depending on the answer to that you may wish to consider a storage building rather than a port as the cost difference is not all that great. In either case, make it bigger than you think you will need it. The incremental cost of bigger is not much and in the future you will be very happy to have the extra space. I built a 55 x 18 RV garage and although it is very luxurious, I wish it were larger so I could have more workshop space. I also wish it had a bathroom which would be more convenient than using the RV for that. A larger port will allow you to have more covered outdoor living space, and if a garage, larger will allow more indoor activity and storage space. You really can't make it too big as there is always storage for cars, boats, toys and other stuff that you will appreciate in the future. If you do a garage door, make it a minimum of 14H x 14W. 16' wide is even better for easy in and out. My 14 foot high door is adequate, although I don't think it is a full opening 14 because my flexible fm antenna tickles the door going in and out.
If you do a port and not a building, consider including a small enclosed lockable room for storage. Also a bathroom, or at the minimum an outdoor utiliity sink for washing up or cleanup jobs.
As for sewer, I presume that your rural lot does not have municipal sewer so you should consult septic system contractors for suggestions and quotes.
Good luck and keep us posted!

We do have 3 climate controlled storage and bathroom facilities on site but the septic is small and uphill. There is also a 40X30 workshop/garage. I guess I am really asking about pad thickness and support pole depth experience. We will be coming back every so often for business and plan on staying in the Motorhome so we need a view and screened patio. Since I am in charge..kinda...I am looking for an outdoor kitchen and smoker/bbq area. Ya'll have given some great ideas and it's much appreciated...Thanks!

We just finished a pole barn for our soon to be delivered 2016 Anthem 44A on our farm near Merced, CA. As already said, bigger is better. We used someone who does Ag construction so the design was simple but effective. Out side dimension was 60'x38' and divided into 2 bays: 22'x60' for the RV, 16'x 60' for patio, future enclosed spaces, etc. Pad thickness was 6" with lots of rebar. Columns were 6" & 4" in diameter. We opted for only a metal roof for now. After we use it for a year we'll probably enclose it and install a 14'x14' roll up door. My wife also wants a screened room. Ours is adjacent to our swimming pool, so it will give us the resort feel. Will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Alec

We put in a 55'×40' red iron building 16'eaves(I would go atleast 18'if I had a do over. The slab is 6" thick with footers and cross beams. It has heat air electric water septic and two 14'×14' electric insulated doors. Cost for project was close to 50k. It would be easy to have a screened area if planed for.

I saw one place where the guy had doors on both ends of his garage, so he could drive through and never have to back out. Cool!

I experienced a fella who was set up for drive through. Was excellent. If doable highly recommended.

We have a 40x60 barn with a roll-up door on either end. The center bay is 16' and the two side bays are both 12'. We have pavers installed which work great but you need to make sure there is at least 2' of base material to avoid sagging.
I also built an enclosed shop/garage at our cabin with 8" concrete floors with lots of rebar installed and epoxy floors which are great looking and easy to clean.
Good Luck with your choices, sounds exciting.
