2018 Spartan K3 DEF sensor fail

Hi guys,
Have any of you with a K3 had the DEF sensor fail codes? I hear from Spartan I have to change the DEF sensor head. The codes are 3031, 3364, and 1761.
Easy fix? Or...

Fred

I dont remember reading of someone who is having to replace a DEF sensor head. Maybe its the same thing, but there is a DEF sensor at the top of the DEF tank.... maybe that is the same thing. If so, there was a thread dealing with that issue within the past 9 months I believe.

Use the green rectangle at the top of the forum and enter ENTEGRA: DEF sensor code and if that doesn't find the thread, then start free associating with error codes and whatever you can think of in the search box after ENTEGRA: and in a couple of tries, you should find it.

Also, have you looked up the codes on the web or the Spartan app? You should get some good leads from those three specific codes.

Let us know what works.

Gary

Fred, I have a friend with an Allegro Bus that was throwing codes relating to the DEF system. Cummins Memphis followed the codes and determined a new DEF head was required. 2 hours out of Memphis, the problem reoccurred.

Cummins Houston then replaced the ECM and I havenít heard if that cured the issue yet.

That friend ran to California and back, so Iíll see if he has solved his issue.

Those are familiar codes from my K2 DEF head problem. I know several of those have been replaced. It is a Spartan part and mine was shipped to a Cummins shop for replacement.

I have a friend who has a 2018 Foretravel with K3 engine, and he has been waiting for a month for a new DEF head. He was told that there are currently none anywhere to be had because Spartan have gone through a large quantity of defective ones.

These are all very useful replies, thanks. I spoke to Spartan and they say DEF heads back ordered. Wonder why this is not a recall yet.

Looks like it is right up there with the radiators. There is something that should have been recalled especially for those having to pay for a faulty product out of pocket.

Spartan builds chassis's everyday and ships one of these on the DEF tank. They have DEF heads and should be getting a new one out to anyone that is in need of one. My feeling is that they should pull one out of the production bin and get it to the people that have helped fund their paychecks. The only reason that I would hesitate taking one of those would be if its in the bad batch that is on the road going bad right now. Even then I certainly would take one if I were stuck in a parking lot or worse yet on the side of the road.

Seems inexcusable to me. I know suppliers try to keep inventory low to reduce cost, but holly smokes, getting so low that a central part used for assembly lines is back ordered, is pretty amazing! A freighter from China unexpectedly sinks in the Pacific...... may produce a backorder but ...... come on guys.... Some things just need to have a thousand sitting in a warehouse. !! If you cant have a couple months of spares sitting in a warehouse, then dont produce the product.

If I overfill my DEF tank my check engine light comes on. I normally twist the cap at the first stop on my trip to relieve the pressure and the light goes off or I just wait until the level goes down. Only happened three times in 24K miles.

There is a horizontal line drawn on the plastic tank with the words beside it "Do Not Overfill" (At least on my tank) Little hard to see but its there. I try never to fill above that line and that seems to keep the sensor happy. I'd rather have a half-filled DEF bottle in the basement than look at a dash error message (and whatever terrible event that is likely to bring with it).
