A/C blower wheel

I have now replaced 10 blower wheels in 3 1/2 years. Airxcel says the are failing because the a/c unit is over tightened to the roof. Entegra says they proved that was not true. Anyone else have any issues? I checked the measurement that airxcel says should be there and it appears to be correct. They always brake in the same place. I have new roof gaskets, but I do not want to go through the process if it will make no difference. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry to hear you're having such an issue. Interesting dilemma. That is a lot of blower wheels, (and labor ). I'm curious where the blower wheels are failing? Which model Coleman Mach(xx)?

Best wishes.

How tight are the 4 hold down bolts being 'torqued' to?

How compressed is the roof gasket?

Roof gasket is 1" thick and should be compressed no more then 1/2........some now have compression tabs

Hold down bolts...........SNUG
What is SNUG?
Finger tight then just a bit more....evenly in an 'X' pattern.
Actual torque number....40 INCH Pounds.......INCH not foot pounds
That is down with an INCH/lb torque wrench NOT the one used for lug nuts/hitch bolts/installation nuts etc.
Small INCH torque wrench

So SNUG....finger tight and then just a 1/4 turn using a wrench.

Have you checked the motor mount brackets/screws.....loose ones will allow fan to wobble which can result in wheel making contact.

Gasket is compressed to about 3/4". This is what airxcel recommends. Motor mounts are fine and no vibration while running. First response was a bad batch of fans and that they redesigns them. Entegra says they disproved the over torquing theory.

Tony, sounds as though you have checked and checked just about everything logic would lead you to. Is it perhaps that the roof itself level corner to corner thereby creating warping of the a/c pan when you torque it down? Or is the pan itself warped?

Wow Tony. Sorry to hear. I don't know if I buy the Airxcel explanation.

We have same year Anthem, (same model and color, we met you guys two years ago at Spartan and later Phoenix) and have replaced one AC unit. No fans yet. I did install the D model blades when I first purchased.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Strange, but when working work well. There is no indication before they fail. Then a terrible racket as the blades come apart. Not bad during the day, but at night scares the hell out of you. Not sure about the roof being square or if the pan is warped. But it would have to be all three.
