A Different DTV Story

After all the complaints about DTV (Including my own) I thought I should post this.

In Florida or about two months. Decided to take a breath and try to change service location. I think I saw that someone had success with Chat so signed into DTV and found the chat.

Jennifer came on the line and 5 minutes later the change was done and my mind was blown!

Conversation along the way showed an interest in us as people. I never mentioned a motor home or anything like that. Just gave our info and she did it.

I hope I can get Jennifer when I change it back!!

I changed my service location again today. Used the 1-800 number that I have posted in the past. Although had to wait on the phone for over 30 minutes do to high call volume, once they picked up, my service location was changed within 5 minutes. I guess Iím one of the lucky ones because Iím a full timer and have never had any problem changing service locations and I change mine on average twice a month.

Why change service locations? Don't you have the VIN on file and have access to the east and west feeds of the nationals?

If you are talking about Direct DNS service with LA or NYC feeds of the national networks, you can no longer get both the east and west coast feeds. If you have had it quite a while, then you are grandfathered and you can have both. I got DNS service about 3 years ago, I was told I could only get one or the other and which one would be determined by where my coach was / is registered.... west of the Mississippi River you get the west (LA) feed, east of the Mississippi, you get NYC. But you could not get both.

If that has changed, then please let me know. I have west coast feed and would much prefer east coast feed.

I changed my service address while in AZ in order to get the local channels for where I am. When I did it, I told the "helper" multiple times to only change my service address, not my billing address. I was assured each time that my billing address would not change. Wrong. Even to get this done, I had to be transferred to second level help. Later when I checked my account on the website, I found out they changed my billing address too. I bet the Arizona police were wondering why they were getting my mail from Direct TV.

This is exactly why I question calling the DTV droids at all - They have about a 80% chance of breaking something in their mucking about.

When AT&T took over, that was pushed to about 95%. Prior to Darth Phone taking over, I had the "sports mix" package for $11/month as part of my service.

This gave me *all* the regional sports networks. It was quite nice, if there was a game that was blacked out, I could usually find it on another of the regionals and while I couldn't hear my commentators, at least could see the game.

A couple months after Darth Phone took over... Suddenly that all went away. I called them, and had three of their droids INSISTING that I never had it, couldn't have had it, it didn't work that way.... And instead of all the regionals (even if they weren't showing professional sports which apparently WAS a glitch that it was)... I only had the 4 or 5 stations from the NY market where my service is "based". No more access to ANYTHING else sports. So what had been about 30 channels for $11 a month, was now 5 channels for $14 - because of course they also had to raise the price.

Don't even get me started on their "updates" to the user interface of the boxes either. They've taken a functional UI for the Genie and wrecked it. I was actually part of a software test after that (a side thing I do sometimes) and was testing how they can LOAD ADS INTO THE MENUS remotely - either using internet or direct satellite transmission. Not happy about that. AT&T has also been caught on the DirecTV-Now internet streaming service, loading their own ads during commercial breaks, instead of network ads. So they get paid and the TV network doesn't.

Yes, I've had the east and west feeds for well over a decade now, but I really need to get my family to evaluate our viewing needs. AT&T are charging stupid amounts for this and it just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Our final straw with DirecTV was the NFL package. NFL pkg shows up on the bill. About $50. Well, we didn't order it. A call to customer service straightens it out. Next month bill shows TWO NFL pkgs. Call fixes it. Next month, only one NFL pkg, so we're making progress. Next call I ask them to produce where we ordered it. "Well, it looks like you didn't". A total of 5 months to get it squared away, and of course there is no refund just a credit. We're now very happy with DISH.

Same problem an elderly friend of mine had! He is not capable of handling the stress or problem, so I switch him over to DISH after severals call to DTV in his behalf. DTV is now offering him $300. to come back and have forgiven the bill.
What part of a new 2 year DISH contract do you not understand....a little late, lost another one.
