...A little help from my friends
Looking for a little help in diagnosing a slide problem.
I have a bedroom slide (bed side) that will not retract. I'm in Vegas right now, with the slide out and it won't budge. This also happened to me in Texas, but I was finally able to get it to move and come in. Since Texas, we've left the slide in.
Symptoms:
- The slide extends with no problem
- With the slide extended, if I hit the switch to extend, the motor will try to run
- Hitting the switch to retract, the motor does nothing; although, sometimes a "click"
- With the help of a service dept [and Entegra CS], I have reversed the motor wires...no effect
- I have moved the wires in the service bay (electronic board) to another slide position (Vanity slide) and still no movement, although, in that position, the vanity slide continued to function
- Had myself and 3 other men push on the slide, while the wife tried the switch...nothing
- finally, alone, I tried to rock the coach, by pushing up on the slide from the outside. The slide didn't move, but I could hear a clicking sound. I looked at the board in the service bay and the red light on that slide connection was blinking. My wife said the motor was clicking with the same frequency.
- while clicking, we tried the switch again and the slide came in...whew, back on the road to Octoberfest!
Finally, after we got to Vegas, I ran the slide out about 2 feet. I then tried to retract it...no problems. I then ran the side out until it stopped; tried to retract and nothing.
I plan to have Entegra look at it, while at Octoberfest. Although, I am no longer on warranty, so the techs might not have time to fit me into the schedule.
Appreciate any thoughts or ideas ???

Are you at Oasis now? Lots of friends arriving soon to help. I would think this is an item that the service people should be able to get around to. it's kind of serious.

jlapray@entegracoach.com will be the service adviser at Oktoberfest. Janet may be able to help.

This is something simple and it has happened to me with a simple roll of toilet paper. Check under the bed and see if anything is caught holding the slide. I didn't even see the roll of toilet paper until I started to work on the slide motor. Might not not that simple, but worth looking at.

Thanks Chuck....I did take another look under the bed for any obstructions, but everything seems ok. Interestingly, the slide will move both in and out, until I get all the way out. Once completely out, it refuses to move and the motor does not even try to run.

Sounds like a dead spot in the motor.

Swap that motor with another motor and see if the problem goes away.

We have had an ongoing problem with the same thing.
Had several shops checked it out but continues to be an issue.
If I wiggle the breaker in the panel outside below the drivers side for the slide that desides not to function that day it will work. Been doing this for a year. Hopefully they can resolve this at our factory stop next September.
Hope this helps

That indicates a whole new solution to the problem. Try something simple first, change the fuse to a brand new one. If that doesn't work, sounds like a wire connection in the fuse panel.
Your slide motor is pulling the most amps when it is pulling the weight of the slide into the MH. If there is a weak connection, it will break down when the amp demand is more than the bad connection can handle.

I,ve changed a couple of different fuses and it does not seem to make a difference. I,ve had 2 different shops look at the problem with no results.
Unfortunately it does not do it all the time, maybe 50 percent.
Hoping the factory can resolve it.
Thanks for the suggestion
Chuck

What was the final fix?
