A Rat Story

Pray you never get one of these in the bowels of your RV...at least not one as smart as the one I have. I have tried every rat and mouse poison (he ate it and survived), traps(he tried to claw his way in rather than enter to get at the food), larger traps he refuses to try the food, stick pad traps (he took to his nesting area, smaller and larger "break the neck traps, etc. We now have 12 sonic sound systems plugged in trying to chase him out.

So what does he do...he chews through 14 wires in my dash associated with the trip-mark system.

Thus far he has eaten out of the trash can, 10 different spices in the spice drawer, dry rice, and...New Mexico red chili powder (very spicy!). This is truly the tree rat from Hell

I can absolutely guarantee if we had one of these rodents in our RV the can of acellerant would come out and we would be calling a taxi. A mouse was approaching that call BUT a rat would definitely push it over the edge.

We use bounce dryer sheets in all cabinet and drawers inside and out. No mice yet. We change them out when they have little to no smell left. This is easy, cheap and makes everything smell good too.

Ya, I read the dryer sheet remedy a few years ago. My daughter used them in their TT until the day the TT was infested with mice and they used the dryer sheets to make their nest. Chalk that one up to an Urban Myth.

Dave, I feel for you. I had one heck of a street smart rat in the attic of the S&B that I could not catch, like you, tried everything. When peanut butter doesn't work, that is one smart rat!! Through the advise of a pest control friend, he suggest setting off a bug bomb in the attic....I set off 2...it worked he was gone the next day. It might be harder in a MH unless you will be gone with the fur kids for a day.

Agree with the dryer sheet myth, our last MH they used it for nesting material in the dresser drawer.

Chuck, that's next if the little you know what doesn't vacate with the 12 sound blasters we have deployed. Haven't seen or heard any signs for two days now. We have fingers crossed.

Rats can travel up anything, electrical cord, sewer hose, water hose, up a tire and get in through a small crack of a bay or hoses and wires run inside of a coach.

On my classic, I always wrapped the stinky slinky with a towel where the slinky came into the wet bay.. Had a towel especially for that process. Stuffed some of the towel into the space between the slinky and the plastic ring and wrapped the rest of the towel tightly around the hose in the wet bay itself.... got a mouse one day in Colorado and while it took only a day or so to get him in the trap, the trap unfortunately didn't kill him quickly and he made a lot of noise until he became quiet.... creepy.... After that, the towel and no more problems.

A Rat Story

I went to Home Depot a few years back and purchased the foam toilet bowl trap seal. If you’ve ever replaced a toilet, the old seals were wax. The foam one I purchased fits tightly around the stinky slinky and makes a very nice tight fit through the bay opening which seals it off from any critter.

Same thing I use.
