A small tip for Rand McNally Navigation setup

I have experienced an issue whereby the Rand McNally software will direct me to a road I should not be on, and it appears the reason is the number of axles selected in the setup.

Because we are towing an additional two axles, we set up the initial info showing a total of five axles, thinking this would be a good representation of our size and length. The problem with that scenario is that the software perceives us as being a single truck with five axles, and that will restrict us from roads simply because we are perceived as being too large for some highways. In our case we were directed AWAY from the Pacific Coast Highway because there is a restriction on vehicles over three axles. By changing the settings to reflect the three axles on the coach, the software readily directed us onto the PCH.

You may never have a problem with this, but if you have found yourself being directed down some obscure - and unsuitable - road, it might be because of the number of axles in setup, and you will be sent to any road that will permit your perceived size irrespective of whether or not it is the best road for your coach.

Cheers!

Frank

Rand McNally

I made the mistake of selecting the "shortest" route instead of "quickest" on my way to Nappanee. I was sent across the Mississippi River via Mansion Street bridge. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4558...2!8i6656?hl=en
on Hwy 54.
Learned my lesson when I met a 18 wheeler and clipped the bridge with the mirror head. Luckily it only knocked the glass out of it with a small scrape on the chrome part.

Hi Matt - We're at the Malibu Beach RV Park until Saturday, and then on to Joshua Tree and Death Valley. Los Angeles is huuuuge, and going anywhere is a major undertaking. But we are parked facing the Pacific and it is just the best.

Hey Frank

Make sure you leave Malibu after traffic lifts otherwise it will take hours getting to Joshua Tree
