Accuride wheels
Hi folks,
The wheels on my 18 Anthem, made by Accuride, are not clear coated. While at NIRVC this past month, I noticed a couple of Cornerstones now offer Alcoa wheels, which I believe are clear coated. Clear coated wheels are much easier to maintain. Has anyone attempted to clear coat their Accuride wheels?

Accuride wheels
If it helps with your decision, here’s a couple of pictures of 5 year old Accu Shield wheels.

My 2016 Cornerstone is equipped with Alcoa wheels but they are NOT clear coated. Alcoa offers both but Entegra did not buy the clear coat in 2016.

Not if it's properly applied. Without clear they get pitted and look awful, IMHO

Also, I believe those photos are of non coated wheels? Am I wrong?

Accuride wheels
The Accu Ride are non coated. The pictures are 5 year old coated Accu Shield. They do come with a 5 year warranty.

I prefer non coated, while they are more work they can always be polished and made pretty again. Not so with clear coated ones, once they look like **** it's permanent. I've had plenty of both......

Without closer examination my guess would be innergranular stress corrosion. It is not that uncommon and is the result of inherent stresses from forming and machining. That is why they most often propagate from edges and corners. Sounds bad, but the reality is they typically are very shollow in terms of microns. Enough depth that the corrosion is visible. They can be polished, but once started they will most likely return. If it were my coach, I would not overly concerned. I’ve had similar conditions on wheels before.

Even if applied correctly it still happens. Any abrasion, like from the edge of the hub cap will start it. Once started it will continue under the coating.

I would avoid abrasive polishing. Once they have started, they will be there. Polish out a bit, but still there. Inspected at a good wheel shop (not tire) should be able ease your concerns.
