Adding oil to tag axle

I had a slight oil leak on DS tag axle wheel. The source was the Stemco hub cap. I tried to remove the pipe plug to add oil using a 5/16" allen socket and promptly stripped the hex socket. Found out later that it takes an 8 mm Allen wrench. Called Spartan CS and then scheduled a trip to Holt CAT Truck Center in San Antonio. They replaced the Stemco hub cap with an old design cap with a soft rubber plug that is easy to remove for oil adds. I will now invest in a set of metric allen sockets. Who knew?

For quite a few years most vehicles have become metric. It's rare to find SAE sized nuts or bolts on cars or trucks. I carry both metric and SAE, but find more and more the metric do most of the work.

That's good you went after looking for the oil leak. Finding it before real damage set it. My oil fill plug was left 3/4 turn loose at freightliner, oil leaked out, found at truck stop, called freightliner and they fixed it. Only had 200 miles on it. Happy trails...
