Alaska in an Entegra

We have been planning a bucket list trip from NC to Alaska with our "not new" truck and fiver. As mentioned in a previous post we just ordered a 2017 Anthem. We are unsure about taking our brand new MH on the Alaskan roads.

Does anyone have experience with a luxury coach on an Alaskan trip?

Thanks,

Mike

Why not, our first long trip was to AK, not one rock chip on the new coach. Would not go on Top of the World highway since it's dirt. The ALCAN highway is fine, paved all the way. Wold do some short trips first just to make sure everything works in the coach then go for it.

We went to Alaska in 2014 driving our Tiffin Phaeton. It is the trip of a lifetime. The roads are pretty good but there are some rough spots depending on your route. Ditto on not driving the Top of the World highway. Better to make that trip in the toad. We took a rock which cracked the windshield which was replaced in Oregon upon our return. Just go prepared with your eyes wide open and it will be a great trip. The question is not if you will have issues, but how you deal with them.

I was wondering. Is DEF readily available along the ALCAN highway at decent intervals, or do you need to haul jugs of DEF?

Excellent question and one I never thought of...is DEF required in Canada?

Yes!

Petro-Canada - Diesel Exhaust Fluid, DEF, Petro-Pass

HERE is an excellent web site where you can search for locations in the US & Canada that sell DEF.

In a sense, it doesn't matter whether Canada requires DEF - your engine will not run without it.

Accomplished the Alaska trip in 2012 with my Dynasty including "Top of The World." Wouldn't hesitate to do the trip over again in a new coach.

Did Alaska some years ago in our DSDP. Rig did not suffer from the trip at all. Did the "Top of the World" highway. Yes, its dirt, but if no rain, it is not a problem. Ferry across the river from Dawson City does give one pucker but the tour bus that went in front of us made it fine, so we took the (dare I say) plunge. We also took the Cassiar (sp?) Highway to Stewart BC which was gravel and had no problem there either. I'm not sure DW would like to take the current rig on that trip, but I would do it in a heartbeat.

We are planning to do Alaska in 2017. Glad to see so many encouraging responses. Any hints on don't miss spots would be greatly appreciated.
