Alaska Trip
I am another that cannot get the search to work right, or I am not asking for the correct search string. I had read on IRV2 in this section that there was a member that utilized a tour guide service for going to Alaska. The gentleman had it all planned out down to the different RV parks along the way to get the best out of the visit. I had meant to save it with the other important to me IRV2 strings and did not. I believe it was a lady, if she happens to see this and can give me insight into the service and their contact information I would appreciate it. I would be open to others experience with tour guide services others have utilized as well.
Appreciate all the responses in advance.
Mike

Mike,
We used Fantasy Tours in 2014 for our Alaska Trip. Fantasy has different length tours depending on your available time and $. We left from Idaho and finished in Anacortes, WA. It was the trip of a life time. Since it was our first trip to Alaska in an RV, we elected an escorted tour.

Did you take your Entegra to Alaska? I have read a lot about bad roads,
gravel damage, etc and wondered if you suffered extensive wear and tear from
traveling to Alaska.
Other than my concern of possible damage to the coach, I could not say more good things about Fanatasy Caravans. Great way to see a lot of new places with the safety and convenience of traveling in a group and all reservations made.
You also meet some really terrific people in the caravan .....

Fantasy Tours is certainly an option for a wall to wall experience. But for our tastes, they sure are "priicey" and when you examine the itinerary, they take you to a bunch of places that the DW and I would never judge to be something that we would like to spend our money on if the decision was up to us. I would advise anyone considering to carefully examine the itineraries and evaluate whether you would choose to visit many of the places included as part of the package. My understanding is that you buy the package, and pay for it if you attend or not. We much prefer making that decision ourselves. We do have to do all the headwork, but we then have what we want, and not what someone else thinks we value.
I think Diesel Diva was discussing a group/person who gave customized advice on an overall structure, and then lets you do what you want from that advice. Might be wrong.

We just returned from a 62 day Fanatsy Alakan caravan beginning in Anacortes and ending in Prince George. It was different from most caravans in that the pace was much slower and most of the activities were optional which means less fixed cost. There was ample time for your individual preferences. We had fanatic fisherpersons, photographers, wildlife viewers, historical buffs, and just plain "campers" on the trip. People chose (and paid for) their individual activities.
We had a great time and it was a great group to travel with. The wagon masters were superb.
If you have the time, I recommend this tour. When everything is taken into consideration it really doesn't much more than doing it on you on and it is a lot less stressful.

Bonnie & I just got back from ALASKA the end of AUG. WE went alone. When we left Houston to go to BIG SKY for Summer Fest, we were not going to ALASKA. Fuel was 1st on my mind. Towns every 300 miles & RV parks with fuel @ least every 100 miles( these the fuel was $1.00 more a gal.) Most of the roads were good, about 75 miles of gravel total, the ice heaves were the thing to watch for. North of WHITEHORSE for about 25 miles was the worst. So if driving the Alaska hwy. is on your list, do it, it was GREAT. OH it was 9000 miles round trip!!!!!!

We took our 2011 Tiffin Phaeton to Alaska. The roads were mostly ok with some rough spots as noted. Our windshield was cracked early due to a rock thrown from a passing truck. Insurance covered the replacement. Other than lots of dirt and mud, we had no other damage. We lowered our deductibles as low as we could go in anticipation of some damage. There had been a lot written on traveling with a tour group versus going it alone. Both have pros and cons. So the best advice I can give is do lots of research and do what's comfortable. I think most everyone agrees that its a fantastic trip.
