Noel, I agree and also understand it functions as you explained. I used a poor example. Using your #1 example, I meant that if you try to scrub off some speed by taking your foot off the throttle, switch on, and let it coast, your brake lights will come on. I mentioned this because I often notice my IP message saying "aux brake on" and really not needing any braking. Maybe I'll quit running with the switch on. Easy to forget.
A Cummins shop close to me said he would reprogram it if I wanted as he has for others that didn't like their brake lights being on continuously while coming down long hills. Anyway no big deal. Thank's.

Gary,
The whole point of this post is that not everyone's coach works the same way in regards to the interaction between cruise control and auxiliary breaking.

Some coaches are set up such that when you exceed your set cruise speed by more than 7 mph, The auxiliary break will engage if it's turned on.... without manually disengaging the cruise control or touching your brake pedal.

Some coaches are set up such that you must manually disengage the cruise control either by hitting cancel on your smart wheel, or tapping your brake pedal to get the auxiliary breaking to engage.

If you've been following the thread we've gotten affirmative responses to both of those conditions, which makes it very difficult for me to answer questions without first figuring out how their coach is set up.

These are parameters built into your systems between the chassis, engine, and transmission. Most people just except their coats the way it comes to them, without exploring these options.

Like you, I prefer to manually operate my cruise and my auxiliary brakes, and that is how my coach was set up from the factory.

See, here's a coach that was set up for the auxiliary breaking to automatically engage when the cruise set speed is exceeded by a specified parameter (if the aux brake is turned on) at the same time the cruise is on.

It's interesting that the coaches don't all come from the factory with the same programs installed.

Noel,
I plan to get my set up reprogrammed similar to your #2 above. I prefer to have my aux brake come on when I touch the brake pedal, NOT when I take my foot off the accelerator... If I want to "coast" by taking my foot off the accelerator, that is what I want to do - without turning off the aux brake.

I guess it is just personal preference, when I want to slow down/stop then I touch the brake pedal - if I don't touch the brake I want to free wheel/coast...

My Phaeton was set up this way and I preferred it that way...

Yep, that's where my first one was set up like that, 2011 Tiffin bus. My opinion that's how they should all come, but at least you can have it done. Noel
