Allison 4000 Service Schedule

Building my annual spring service list, I decided to look a bit harder at the service schedule for the big Allison tranny. Not much info in the Spartan manual, and couldn't find much on the internet. I found an older post (2005-ish) that indicated an initial fluid/filter change was required at 20,000 miles. However, looking at a newer post on the same series of transmission but a circa 2015 model, it does not mention this. Now I am confused......

So what is the service interval used by you 4000 mh tranny's in the Cornerstones? Have you thought about it yet?

Curious to know.....

That early post was before they went to different type filters and is no longer relevant.

Take a look at the pdf attached, page 88. This document comes on the usb stick Spartan sends when you buy a new coach.

This entire document is for Allison Transmission.

Read the attachment. I just had mine serviced at Cummins, first time.$700 for just the new fluids, kinda expensive. This was at the five year and 60k point. Old fluid seemed good. I seem to remember the number at Spartan class being 50k or three years, but I can’t find my old class notes.

On the Allison forum they continue to recommend have trans fluid tested before you make the plans to change the fluid. On our 18 Spartan K-3 chassis the Allison trans will read out on the shift control display the fluid life and numerous other trans information. Worth doing the fluid test when you look at the 600$ plus cost.
