Annual maintenance costs

Maybe this has been posted but I have zero confidence in the search, sorry.

What are you spending annually to maintain your coach?
I figure tires as a separate line item so basically just filters, fluids and etc...

Somebody did a post last year and calculated all the required maintenance. As I remember it was around $2000/yr.

That's assuming you are paying the man hours and not DIY

Thats close enough. I'm sure I can do it myself but it may be easier and faster to let someone else do the majority of it.

I actually think it's a bit less than that. Your first maintenance at 15,000 will definitely be the aforementioned $2K, but annual/15,000 maintenance will be less than that by a fair bit until you get to 60,000 miles. The 45,000 is just an oil change and lube points, Speedco does a meticulous job of that for less than $300.

I don't do the maintenance myself, too much hazmat to deal with.

Remember the genny has to be maintained as well, but this is a nominal amount. Speedco will do that too if you bring them the filters. I've done the genny myself as well, and it's not difficult.

I used to do my own lube, oil and filters, but I can't do it myself for as low as Speedco does it. It cost me as much for materials for what they do everything for which is about $235. Example, secondary fuel filter, $35. online, Speedco price is $5.99 which is a Cummins only filter. I still lube the U joints every 5,000 miles, but I let Speedco do the rest now.

I just got back from Entegra and had their Spartan guys do our complete 2 year maintainance and also do the oil/filter on our generator. Cost was a little over $2,000.

My mistake, you're correct...the 2 year is the expensive one, the 1 year/15,000 and the 45,000 are substantially cheaper.

This based upon DIY, and over the top maintenance habits, but for the last 5 years we typically average around $1000-1200 per year.

I do it all except tire changes.

The generator is as easy as a lawn mower. The engine is easy, just a lot of volume.

Frankly, the mechanical bits of a Motorhome chassis is similar to a 60's era muscle car only larger.

I've done U-Joints, trans fluid, air filter, coalescing filter, coolant flush, etc. NONE of it is brain surgery beyond learning how to collect and dispose gallons of spent lubricant or coolant.

Just left Spartan for my 36 month service - Change Oil/Fuel/Air Filters & Lube (Engine and Gen set), Differential, and oil bath axles, Radiator fluid extension (not much cost), Laser Alignment all wheels, 40+ inspection, plus had 2 recall items addressed. The inspection found 2 consumer responsible items that amounted to $55, Total was $1750

Hobart, I know that must sting.

Can you provide some insight as to what they accomplished please? If your visit was purely maintenance, that seems kinda heavy. If it included mechanical work, or repairs, I can understand $3000 a bit easier.

Surely there were some mechanical issues corrected, weren't there?

Thanks,

-Matt

We spend around $1,500 per year for engine, generator, and chassis regular maintenance, oi
, and filters. The Aqua hot is additional and I dont have that cost here. We have been buying the AH parts and DIY.

The AH is $15 for the fuel nozzle and $8.00 for a WIX filter. Or onsite mobile service $200. It is an easy DYI if you are handy with a wrench.

this is completely my method, but it seems to work................when I bought my 2007 Monaco knight, I budgeted $1000 per month in maintenance, tweeks, upgrades, etc.............we have had the coach a little over a year, and have spend approximately the budgeted amount.........going into year two, my monthly costs may go down, I am not sure........I can pretty much assume that a new satellite system, refrig rebuild, etc will not recur as they were upgrades.............for what it is worth, I am not like a lot of you that are talented enough to make your own repairs..........every maintenance item or improvement on mine, with exception of maybe a light bulb replacement (example) is done by my mechanic..............
