Aspire front windshield shades

I'm following a discussion on Entegras over on TRVN. One sticking point seems to be the two piece shades on the front windshield. My question to those of you with Aspires, is it really two piece? What do you like or dislike about it being that way?

On a side note, I find it very interesting that this is the only thing they have identified so far that they don't like.

Folks here with an Aspire (2012) say they have split front shades. Say they have some problems with the motors.

Lets assume the shades are in perfect working order. I would like to hear from Aspire owners that have them and what their likes/dislikes are.

Aspire front shades

I have a 2013 Aspire w MCD motorized front shades. The coach is about 6 mos old. Up to this point they have worked okay. I think they were not programmed correctly initially because they have several "set points" or stops on the way down. My old Monaco had an older version of the shades that were quite a bit simpler. On the old shade you held the button down until you liked the position, or up the same way. This week my shades went "stupid" and have lost their programming. It's weird because the coach was powered up the whole time. I have fiddled with the programming buttons following the directions but the darn things have a mind of their own. Problem for next warranty repair visit. As for the "split" shades referred to, I guess that means the splits made in the shades to accomodate the cury dashboard. I have found for full down use I drape the bottom of the shade towards the steering wheel and that leaves almost no gaps in the corners. Using my shade this way the splits are not needed and in fact look a little cheesy. The other problem I have is the weight bar(s) in both shades jiggle out past the shade too far on a long day of bumpy roads and then jam the shade if they are not verified flush before using the shade. Overall the shade works better than sun visors , but I think it is overly complicated and finicky.

Dave,

Tom is referring to a two piece front windshield shade on the Aspires. Here is a link to an example of a 2014 Aspire.

New Entegra Coach Aspire for sale in Alvarado TX | 2014 Entegra Coach Aspire (44U) W/4 Slides & 450HP Bath & 1/2 RV for Sale Diesel Pusher For Sale from Motor Home Specialist in Alvarado Texas

If you look at the pictures you can see that the windshield shade is a two piece set up rather than a single solid shade across the front. Tom's question, and mine now also, is the windshield shade a two piece unit. My guess is that it is two pieces to accommodate the dash shape, but that is a guess on my part.

My new Anthem has the MCD one piece shade, my 2011 had the two piece. Both worked well, I prefe the one piece and thought they were on the new Aspires also but not sure about that.

Shade

My Aspire has a day one piece, and a night one piece shade. My former RV had the two piece.

I didn't like the two piece shade at first but have come to like it better than the one piece because of the shape of the dash. We can lower the two sides to different heights to keep the gap on the sides to a minimum.

I was just at the factory a few weeks ago, and our guide told us that Entegra has gone back to the two shade system (one night and one day shade). I know the 2013's had one piece front shades, now the 2014's are back to the two piece shades.

Rob,

Please don't take this wrong, but you post seems confusing. You state they are going back to the two piece shade but then mention one day and one night.

Our old coach has a two piece night and day shade. Similar to the pic on the MHSRV site. Our new coach has the one piece shade (both day/night are one piece).

As it relates to Tom's original question: I don't know that I have a strong preference either way to be honest. We use the coach often and I can't see a strong preference of one vs the other. But that's just my opinion.

Rob, I'm really confused. My coach has a single night shade that spans the full width of the windshield. It also has a single day shade that spans the full length of the windshield.

In my original post when I spoke of two piece shades I meant the kind that are split down the center. One advantage was that you could lower one side to block the sun kind of like the sun visor in your car.

So are you saying that the day shade is now split down the center and the same with the night shade?

Two piece vs one piece shades

Not to confuse the issue but I prefer the two piece sun shades ( left side can be adjusted differently than right side) but I do like a single shade across the whole works for a day shade (the type you can see somewhat). I don't know if such a combination is possible like split motorized visors but a manual pull down sun shade.

We have the split (2-piece) day shade and split (2-piece) night shade. I like having the split day shade since I frequently prefer my shade at a different height than DH wants his. Wouldn't mind having the one piece night shade since it looks neater from the exterior. Not that big a deal one way or 'nother to me.

The 2014 Entegra Anthems we have seen all have the two piece day and two piece night shades. Our 2013 also has the one piece day and one piece night shade. Maybe it solves the privacy problem they were having, but we just had our gaps closed by reversing the door and drivers window shade.
