Auto Genset

Can the auto genset be turned on while the generator is running? Are the basic settings to come on automatically when AC is called for and/or batteries are running low? Are those the preset parameters and are there any options to change beside "quiet time"?

The Onan EC-30 won't allow you to enable auto-genset operation if the generator is already running. Then again, why would you need to.

Once you verify that everything is set up correctly, via the manual, the only thing you should ever have to change is the quiet time hours if they vary from one campground to the next.

We were told at Lazydays that if the auto genset start was "On" and the a/c called for current, the generator would start even if we were plugged in to shore power. We haven't noticed anything so far though.

This is how my system is set up and I hate it and can't figure out how to change it. Yet...

I think I read somewhere that there is an AC sense circuit in the Genstart Controller that will inhibit genstarts when shore power is present, but Entegra did not hook it up. If anybody finds out how to enable this, please post it here.

On the back of the EC-30 is a wire harness and connector. The wires connected to pin # 13 and pin # 14 are the shore power sense. The EC-30 does NOT use any 120 VAC current in the harness. What you need to have is the optional Onan transformer. This small transformer sits on top of your automatic transfer switch. The two 120 VAC input coil leads connect to the shore power side contacts in the automatic transfer switch. The two output leads are 24 VAC current. These wires connect to pins 13 and 14 on the EC-30. Whenever shore power is present, the transformer will send 24 volts of AC power to those two pins and the EC-30 will know not to start the generator should the thermostat call for cooling. If the shore power goes away, the 24 VAC signal will drop off and the EC-30 will then start the generator whenever the thermostat calls for cooling.

I don't know if Entegra installs the transformer and/or runs the wiring to the EC-30 or not. If not, they should be. A quick look at the transfer switch will indicate if the transformer is there or not. It looks like a doorbell transformer and probably isn't much different. If you don't have one, you can get one from Onan or probably just find one at any place that has electrical supplies, after all they are the same thing as a doorbell transformer. Just makes sure it has 120 volts in and 24 volts out. The next issue is if you have those two wires run to the upper cabinet. A call to Entegra service would probably give you the answer to that.

Hey, maybe everything is there but just not hooked up. My Tiffin had the chassis battery sense wire run down to the chassis battery connection area but they just left it hang there and never hooked it up. I connected it and now I have a chassis battery voltage readout as well as house battery readout on the EC-30s LCD display.
