No...on ours there are two boxes per awning and one of them houses a pot that senses the wind speed.
These are in the front bay on the pass side on ours.
4 phillips screws gives you acess.

Not sure this provides much value but we have no such problem as described. I've witnessed the wind sensor in action when the wind picked up; as I was getting out of a chair to bring the awning in the sensor did it's job and beat me to it.
