Awning remote for 2017

Curious, on the 2017 Anthem, did anyone receive an awning remote control when they purchased the coach? Has anyone purchased one after the fact?

Others are saying their 17's came with remotes, others said theirs were missing.

Ours was one of the first 2017s delivered and we didn’t get an awning remote. I’ve never missed it because I’ve used the Vegatouch app on a dedicated tablet since day one. As Chuck mentioned some later 2017s apparently had remotes. I think I’ll add that to my questions to ask at Homecoming next week.

I bought one from Girard for my 2017 Anthem. I personally like having the remote when I am parked in tight spots and can be outside watching that the awning won’t hit anything. I think the awning remote cost about $80. It is very easy to program. Girard will send you the info on how to program the remote or you can just ask people on this forum.

I purchased a remote for ours.

Here is my reasoning..

The built in gust sensor is only sensitive to loads perpendicular to the awning rail. There are times the load isn’t oriented in this manner, and results in the Girard not having any reason to retract, even though the wind may be howling.

I’m very careful with these awnings as they are quite fragile and can easily be bent or broken.

I keep our remote inside the outdoor TV center for quick access if I’m outside. I’ve had to use it many times.

For $99 you can buy the Crestron app for the Vegatouch and use it on up 6 devices. All will have the ability to extend the awnings or put the slides out while standing outside.

Awning issues

I have a 2017 Entegra Insignia. I used my awning last week at Dover and when I tried to bring it in it would not work. It started getting a little windy so I was thinking maybe the wind sensor would bring it in. Nope!! So I took off the white panel which operates the awning (because I don't have a remote) and what do I find?? Its not hard wired in, it's operated by two watch batteries. yup not hard wired. So I switched them around and was lucky enough it went in until I purchased new batteries. So I now keep a spare pack of batteries. Also I guess I could unscrew the wall mount and I would now have a remote. who would of known.

Bill,

That is what I will probably do. I have hesitated to take this route in the past as I didn't have an Ipad to dedicate to the coach and didn't want to have to change WiFi networks. The other is that I would have to buy the app twice as I am also using the IPhone. My thinking now is to buy a simple android pad.

Jim double check on the purchase of the app.. I’m also looking into adding our iPads and we have two of them. As Bill mentioned, you could have up to 5 or 6 devices to load the app onto. Take a look at your Crestron processor. There’s a sticker on there with the Firefly name and logo. The sticker will tell you how may devices you can add. My sticker tells me I can add up to 5 iPads and up to 5 smart phones. So, for the $100 I’ll add the app to each iPad and when I purchase another iPad, then I’ll dedicate one it to the app..

If you have any questions or concerns a simple phone call to Firefly will clear it up.
