Bakersfield to 29 Palms, Ca.

45' Anthem flat towing and Traveling from Bakersfield RV Resort to 29 Palms RV Resort ( Joshua Tree ).

Looks like HWY 58 to 395 S ( or continue to Barstow 247 S ) to 62 E.

Anyone done this Route ? Suggestions welcome !

Thanks

We went to Palm Springs from Bakersfield last Nov. (stayed in Orange Grover RV Park in Bakersfield) Via 58 to Barstow.

Returned via 395 to 58, then Bakersfield.

Either way is no problem, not a difficult day trip. 395 to 58 coming back was a little shorter, also more freeway. That was going to Palm Springs, probably to 29 Palms not much difference in distance either way.

When you go via Barstow you have 2 lane highways to 29 Palms after Barstow. Not difficult for the 45' beast with toad however.

Take 58 to the 15. Stay on the 15 a few miles to Barstow and exit on Main Street, right turn. stay on until it reaches 247 or Old Woman Springs Rd. Turn left and follow into Yucca Valley. Turn left on Hwy 62 and it will take you into 29 Palms.

Second Orange Grove

Either one is a good route. I prefer 58, but it does get a lot of truck traffic.

Again Thank You, truck traffic doesn't bother me as I grew up up driving truck.

Another route question: 29 Palms to Chula Vista RV Resort ?

I've looked quickly as not certain we're going there until we know the status of construction next door to Chula Vista RV Resort ( closing Feb. 1 ). The City of San Diego owns the property and is building a Convention center so we've heard.

29 Palms to Chula Vista

"Another route question: 29 Palms to Chula Vista RV Resort ?"

62 from 29 Palms to I-10. I-10 to Interstate 79 (at Beaumont), 79 to I-15, I-15 to Chula Vista.

An easy route if you can time it not to be on the road during rush hour. Just N of San Deigo to Chula Vista will be very congested after 3:30.

We were in Chula Vista RV Resort Jan-Feb 2017, sorry to see it closing down.

Looked at the route again (Bakerfield to 29 Palms) and if it were me would go to Barstow/247/62. Taking 395 S out of 4 corners made sense for us going to Palm Springs, however to 29 Palms I'd go via Barstow.

Bakersfield to 29 Palms, Ca.

The intersection of 58 and 395 is a real choke point with only one lane in each direction. It gets congested on holidays (usually East bound at the beginning of the holiday weekend and West bound at the end of the weekend). While I haven’t driven it during peak commuting time, it would be worth watching the traffic. They are extending the 4 lane freeway to eliminate the choke point but it’s not complete yet.
