Bang then wind noise

We drove in very strong headwinds for about 4 hours today. Our entry door had a little stronger rattle than normal. We got a sudden noise like someone hit us with a brick or 7.62mm round (I know both sounds) and immediately got strong wind noise from the entry door. When I was finally able to stop I couldn't find anything visible. All I can imagine is that the air lock on the door popped over the cam.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? I am calling CS in the morning.

Yes, same thing when we first got our coach. Thought I hit a deer or pedestrian. Turned out to be the small window by the passenger seat closing on its own(frame not right and unable to have window open without a prop. It was night time so I didn't discover this until daylight. Scared the bejeebers out of us. X2 on the 7.62!

It sounds like maybe the door air seal popped? Can someone stand by the door while you put it in gear to see if they can hear it inflate. Do let us know what you find out from CS.

Giving a little more though to this.....unless there is a flow restrictor inline, the air seal would have a 130 PSI on it. If it popped it would sound like 7.62 going off.

I sure hope this is one of those that I don't learn from experience. After the turkey through Karen's side of the windshield then a door blowing up next to her...I am afraid the MH would be up for sale.

Might not be related to the air noise, but did you check to make sure you still have your hub caps?

Check the hook mounted on the door where the air seal locks. It's made out of plastic. Ours broke between the two mounting bolts. That could account for the pop sound and also then for the wind noise.

Had a similar sound when we didn't quite get the door closed tightly. For us, when we stopped and reclosed the door all was good although the wind noise was really bad until we did.

You might want to check your awning and/or your slide toppers. When traveling and high winds, these will catch the wind and try to unfurl, causing a loud BANG, when the spring pulls them back!

Talked to CS. They said what I described was the lock pin popping over the wedge. He said old wedges were cut thinner than they are now and would allow the pin to pop over. He's sending me a new, improved, thicker wedge.

Thanks Vance. Any chance you could post a photo of the new style, it may help someone with the old style to avoid that shock that happened to you.

I know how that goes, I have been waiting since 9 AM for a freight truck with the new microwave, it's now 3 PM.

I must have had the improved door wedge already. The new one arrived and it is the same shape and thickness as the one installed.

Looks like the only current option is to fly it and watch it.
