Batteries
Does anybody know if AGM batteries are supposed to be equalized? When I bought my coach, used, they installed all new Interstate AGM batteries because they found one bad battery.

My East Penns AGM say Not to equalize.
Check the batty mfg website & specs
I have had good luck using a Battery Minder maintainer...they are supposed to prevent or reverse sulfation...I have noted an increase in charge voltage after a maintenance period with it attached.
Just ordered and installed the larger 8A unit for my 8 - GC2 batty bank while in storage.

Go to Entegra Coach app and view PJs videos on equalizing and other good topics.

A very long post regarding that subject that can be found in the search function. I won't equalize mine per the manufactures recommendations.

Lifeline Batteties, made in America, and 5yr warranty, tell you to equalize once a year at 15.5v for 6-8 2hrs. It's on their web site.

This has been asked and answered/discussed 20 times on here and fully discussed in two or three very long threads. Search for them and all the issues are there.
Only, Lifeline says their AGM batteries can be equalized, but they actually use a different term (which I can’t remember) and a different process. No other manufacturer, who we are aware of, recommends equalizing AGMs.
I don’t do it, and I think virtually no one does. The problem is that if it is done, it is supposed to be done with a low, controlled amperage draw at ~ 15.5 volts. However, our chargers/inverters throw everything that they have available (100 amps or more) at the batteries which overheats them and may cause them to vent (not good)!

Larry,
Interstate AGM batteries should not be equalized.

Generally batteries do not need FREQUENT equalization..
You would only do that if you have batteries where cells test at different voltages (12 volt) or six volt pairs where one battery tests higher than the other.. And in normal use that wont' often be an issue.

Responses ignore a very important issue. Entegra coaches usually use AGM deep cycle batteries, not flooded cell batteries which are cheaper and more common in many coaches . Equalization IS an appropriate strategy for flooded batteries and it is a common process for coaches with flooded batteries. However, equalization is not recommended for AGM batteries which have a completely different internal construction and structure. It would be good for commenters to give advice which is relevant to the OP’s coach.

Gary, why would you say that when Lifeline actually recommends EQUALIZATION once a year? These are American made and are qualified DOD Mil-Std batteries. I'd agree with you if you were talking about the cheaper Harris/ Discover batteries that that Entegra uses.

Lifeline is the ONLY manufacturer of AGM batteries that recommends equalization.

Jim
If you would take the time to read my earlier posts on this issue, you will see that I am quite aware of the issue you raise and stated it clearly in a previous post. It helps to read the full thread.
I don’t mind being chewed out when I say something wrong, but it chaps when I say something right.

Gary, don't get your panties in a twist. You made a specific statement that AGM batteries are not designed to be equalized. Technically, that is a comment on the "design" of AGM batteries, and is flat out incorrect, and could definitely lead one to believe that equalization is not appropriate for AGM batteries. And another thing, I'm not going to research all your threads before I comment on an incorrect statement. People that review these threads don't necessarily live in these posts, and shouldn't be expected to deep dive the forum looking for your previous posts. Some are new to the forum, and can be easily led in the wrong direction. You are obviously knowledgeable in your experience with coaches, and I respect that. Peace!
