TDB1227, as you can see, most of us use multiple resources. Using just one resource can lead to errors. I like the GPS, I have a couple of dashboard models and a handheld for hiking. Problem is, I've also witnessed errors and misinformation. GPS have routed me through a military base in Connecticut, (guards wouldn't let us through even though the GPS said it was the best route to the Interstate) I watched my handheld GPS waver on our position and altitude even when stationary in a meadow on a Wyoming mountain that I know wasn't going up and down by over 100 feet, and I still haven't found the route the GPS was sure would lead me to Mt. Wilson Observatory in California. First it wanted us to turn right in a farmer's field, no road in sight, then it wanted us to go up a narrow road that turned into a private driveway.
Using multiple resources and do a bit of planning ahead is the best recommendation I can give any traveller.
