Big Bend National Park

Looking to hang out there for about a week and MC ride the park and the surrounding area. Looking to stay at Maverick Ranch RV Park. Has anybody here stayed there and could please comment on the RV park? We understand that this is desert and hill country and I'm sure tons of sand, but the pictures we've seen show some amazing roads and scenery worth riding.

Thanks....

We stayed there and loved it. It is a great gateway to all the surrounding area. Everything is a long way apart. Even if you stay in BBNP at RGV, it is still a long drive to other parts of the park. The FHU park at RGV is just a paved parking lot. The non FHU park is very nice if you like dry camping. You will be driving a lot either way, but it sounds like that's what your looking for. The drive west on 170 is one of the best drives in Texas. Be sure and stop at the "Closed Canyon" in BB Ranch State Park. It's an easy 1/4 mi hike. You should expect some 90+ degree weather from April - Oct.

Thanks, read Davids articles of both Big Bend and Maverick RV Park and it sounds like something we'll do. To bad the park is difficult to get in touch with.

We stayed at Maverick RV Ranch in Lajitas when we went to Big Bend. Fantastic area - check out the drive along the Big Bend Ranch National Park to Presido. (Not in the motorhome). Scared the bajesus out of me in our Ram!

Been checking out all of the roads to ride and most, if not all, will be done on the Roadglide.....it's amazing what you see and smell while riding a MC....

I went to desert survival school in Big Bend in the early 70s. This thread and the link made me realize avoiding Big Bend because of my bad memories of it isn't fair to my wife. It truly is beautiful and my wife deserves to see it. It's now on our visit list. Thanks for sharing!

At least it isn't if she doesn't make you drink from a cactus and eat a raw snake.

Seriously though, maybe you'll really enjoy seeing it after all these years, and it will be a reflection of how far you've come in life, and all the things you've endured.

We are planning a trip for next year.

On our yearly trip to the west coast we're going the southern route, and had been looking for some good riding to augment the planned Moab area rides (the Dugway is also a must ride) plus my wife is determined to spend some time on the Destin beaches. Last summer I took the big GSA in order to ride to Alaska with a friend but this summer will rely on the little WR250 as my ticket. Glad I investigated this thread so Big Bend/Maverick is now on the itinerary for the third week in April. Thanks folks!
