Blew up our bed!!!!

Drove through Rocky Mountain National Park! The top is over 12000 ft elevation. A little tedious in a few of the hairpin turns, but an amazing drive. We were headed From Breckenridge to Estes Park on the back roads. We did not think to deflate our bed!! One of the chambers blew. Had to stuff a bunch of pillows inside the Mattress to even sleep on it. I personally did not like the bed, and will replace it ASAP. Just wanted to warn anyone going high altitude to deflate your bed!!!
Great Travels

What brand was the bed? They normally have a pressure valve that lets air out to prevent rupturing. We have taken our Sleep Comfort over the highest elevations in the US and never messed with the air level until we laid down to sleep on it.

Known problem with Sleep Number. Blew ours 2 years ago going over Flagstaff. We always deflate to 25 or less.

Thanks for the warning Jim. We are in the Black Hills heading for Denver and have been deflating along the way.

Having lived in CO for 20 years, that was one heck of a drive in a 44 ft MH! I have driven it many times with the Vett, but I think I'll leave the MH in Loveland. Are you staying in Estes Park?

Not there Chuck. That was last week. Have made it home. Was a 4 week trip. Las Cruses, Tombstone, Las Vegas, Zion Nat Park, Brice Canyon, Breckenridge, Estes Park, Colorado Springs then home!!
Our bed was a Sleep Number. Came with the Coach

We used to live in Estes Park and have driven Trail Ridge Road more times than I can remember. I couldn't even imagine driving a 45 footer on that road. My wife is nervous driving it in a car!

The manual that comes with the sleep number bed does recommend deflating the bed chambers down to 20 % when going to higher altitudes. I did not read the manual and blew one side of the bed out and had to obtain a replacement.

Blew up our bed!!!!

Probably one of the reasons they've switched to memory foam mattresses for 2016... Too many "Aw Shoot" moments for unhappy customers.

Thanks for the heads up. We would not have thought of deflating the mattress going over a pass, like Hoosier - been to Breckenridge from Colorado Springs, beautiful drive - we were in our old gas rig at the time.

Thanks for the warning! I've heard that one should deflate when gaining altitude.

I just hope I remember to do it.

Completed a 4,400 mile trip out west 4 weeks ago. Colorado Springs, Estes Park, Moab Utah, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Metor Crator, and back home. We remembered to deflate the bed every morning we were moving, and reading your post, glad we did. Not all that impressed with the sleep number bed and might replace it at some time in the future.

Jim & Mary, We agree completely !! Do not want bed problems on the road, besides it is just not a comfortable bed. We are replaceing it with a gel foam just like the one on our home bed.
