Canadian vacation recommendation
We are headed to Jasper and Banff, any suggestions on where to stay to fit a 45' Entegra. Also, other than guns and ammo, what other things should I be aware of going into and out of Canada.

Banf national park campground has spaces with lots of room. Not a resort but the scenery is great. You can book online and need to book a long way out to get a big site and elect. And water, no sewer as I remember. Hope I remember this right as it has been a while, but you can go to Canadian parks website and check it out and get reservations. There are some private parks in the area but I don't know anything about them. I am sure others will jump in with good suggestions. Beautiful area, enjoy your trip.

Nice park in Canmore; you can find it in campgroundreviews.com...located on what they call a river, but it is just a creek. Fantasy tours originate out of this park as well. Makes all of the area you're interested in a day trip. Also, take the back road just West of Canmore by a large lake; lots of wildlife.
Word to the wise...when going to Lake Louise, get there before 9AM, or be prepared to park a long ways out. These parks get pretty crowded during the Summer. Many glaciers on the road to Jasper!

July 1 in Canada is Canada Day just like our 4th of July.
How do I know this?
Showed up in Calgary on the 1st of July....no RV park space ANYWHERE.
They also took our good apples when we crossed the border...never did find a good apple in Canada.
Watch out for bears in Banff.

This is a tough year to do that trip because Parks Canada is waiving all fees for their anniversary year. As a result, tourism there is way up and RV spaces will be very hard to find unless you already have reservations.

Take all your RV's weights and measures and convert them to metric , and have them on a note on your dash .
Nothing worse than seeing a low clearance sign ; 3.5M ; and not knowing if you'll fit.
Passports , have them ready , you may be able to enter Canada without them , but getting back into the USA may be a problem.

To fit a 45' coach in Banff the place to stay is Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court campground. They have full hookup sites that are parallel to the terraced roads and are pull through.
Lake Louise also has large pull through sites with water and electric only. A dump station is located in the campground.
In Jasper stay at Whistlers campground. Many (but not all) sites that are on the full service loops that are all pull through can accommodate a 45' motor home.
With all of these you will need a reservation, sooner rather than later. If passing through and everything is full each has an overflow area that is around 15.00 a night that has pit toilets. There are no services and you are essentially parking in a level gravel/dirt based lot in the wilderness.

Great advice here. We've crossed twice and DW had all our papers ready to go including Rascal's We tried being as pleasant and forthcoming as possible. "Do you have any guns?" With a smile "We're not that stupid" "What are you going to do with all your wine?" (We'd told him we had 6-8 bottles.) "Drink it we hope." "Just don't sell it!"
They walked through the coach and told us to have a nice visit.
I think the fact that Cheryl was so prepared helped a lot. Everything in folders etc.
Same on reentry. I asked the agent if anyone ever tried to get ammo in and he told that when ammo was in short supply, a guy went to Canada and bought 100,000 rounds of .22's. Told the agent he had them. Duhhhh Confiscated of course but apparently because he had been honest no other action. But how does one make a decision to buy the rounds knowing you can't bring them back. Oh well

Just went through the Chief Mountain entry few days ago (Waterton was practically deserted due to early in the season) and my border crossing tact is a bit different. It's a simple "yes sir, no sir" but by all means be prepared. And anyone carrying guns or ammo is advised to not attempt it, even with the previously approved paperwork in hand. You can also go on the Canada website and get a free park pass due to the 150th.
