Changed out the old coolant sight glass for the new one....Nice

Changed out the bubble sight glass with the new Spartan issued flat sight glass....what a nice improvement, the coolant level is now visible.

When removing the old style sight glass, it is in two parts, remove it from the large brass nut that screws into the tank.

Have the new sight glass pipe doped, or Teflon taped and ready to screw in as coolant will flow out. It was an easy change, but do have a towel underneath, it is a little messy. Spartan did mail the new sight glass at no charge.

Chuck, who did you contact at Spartan to get the new sight glass? Thanks.

I have a routine service appointment in Charlotte for July 20th. You just gave me something to add to the list.

Very much so. When I removed the old sight glass it is discolored from the coolant. There wasn't a clue where the coolant level is as the sight glass is now the same color. I am sure that is why Spartan has changed the sight glasses to hopefully what will stay clear.

There are too many places for coolant leaks on our MH's and something I keep a very close eye on. Nice to be able to see the coolant level now.

Chuck

I hope with your luck with your coach, the new sight glass does NOT get cataracts!

Hey Corey, I had a feeling the Aqua Hot would not be a simple solution. Thanks a million for your help and expertise.

At least if the sight glass gets cataracts, Spartan does replace them.

I think the purpose of this tank is for liquid expansion. So the site glass shows when the tank is full when hot or is that the low level when cold? Are you expected to refill when there is no liquid showing and its only a ½" low? You can't fill it when it's hot and when it's cold it's way below the site glass. To me it seem that the level is ok if there is just a couple of inches in the bottom when its cold to maintain liquid at the suction of the pump. If this true the site glass should be closer to the bottom of the tank to indicate LOW level when cold. Has anyone discussed this with Spartan or Cummins?

Ron, with the old sight glass you couldn't tell if it had coolant in the tank or not as the sight glass was the same color, it always looked full. The new sight glass is clear (see Photo) You can now see if it has fluid, low on fluid, or right in the center when cold. No need to call Spartan or Cummins, it now works perfect.
