John, thanks for the excellent documentation complete with photos. Will definitely be in my "what if" file for trouble shooting. Glad you were able to get parts and continue with your outing.

First. Being at QZ you are surrounded by the world's greatest collection of RV experts in existence.. That should help a lot. But still they told you "Can't be done"

Do you like watching Color TV? Just so you know they told him "Can't Be Done" as well (Him is the inventor) I know of several "it can't be done" lines,, all proven false... Imagine a hand held "Rifle" with zero recoil? (Ok so it's a rocket launcher) the Goddard Recoiless Rocket Launcher. We call it the Bazoka.

Sitting here reading the generator manual, the 12500 (HDKCB) and the 10000 (HDKCA) have the same part numbers:

oil filter 122-0893
air filter 140-3071
fuel filter 149-2513

OUCH, that makes this a $1000. post. I have heard of high labor, but that is ridiculous. Was that at a Cummins shop? I know other have said Cummins had to pull the generator to change the filter, John proved them wrong. How much lazier can mechanics get, excuse me, technicians.

This post is now bookmarked on everything I own. With my luck I won't have wifi or cell service if I have to change the pump and won't be able to pull this post up. Thanks again John

A Little Harder on a Cornerstone

On a Cornerstone with air powered tray for the generator, it is a little harder...an added step. As you can see from the picture below, the air ram for moving the genny in and out is in the way of removing the access plate and fuel pump. The ram will have to be removed before the steps above by removing the nut on the front of the ram, retracting the ram by activating the generator slide switch, and then removing the E-clip and pin from the back of the ram. It will swing aside, but you have to be careful to support it and not damage the air lines. Again, do the reverse to re-assemble the slide ram after the fuel pump has been replaced.

John:

It was great to meet you and Barbara and to get to know you at Quartzsite more than we have met over iRV2 in the past, and very glad to hear that you were able to find a way to get the genny going. Not sure where you headed but assume it was to some commercial power location.....

Congrats on the new coach coming and I will be filing this thread in my "must remember thread" file for future reference.

Drive safe!!!

Chuck it was Cummins in Vegas, said they would have to remove gen, I know they removed the front cover because there was grease everywhere, but they did it in 1 day which made me happy 😊

I'll bet you dinner when we meet next that John Arenz spent nowhere near 8 hours changing his pump (maybe 8 hours if you include all the web-based research he had to do before he started the actual repairs, but certainly not the repair itself).

I will comment in a little while on my observations on how long it takes to change out a radiator, which is paid at 8-12 hours.

I am fully aware of what one is willing to pay for a repair to get back on the road.... been there and done that.

Gary

Thanks Richard, that is what makes this post so valuable, when you have to have it, it is an expensive repair. Another forum member told me that my local Cummins shop had to remove the generator to replace the fuel pump. John's post just showed us it could be a road side repair very easily. I probably would have taken Cummins word for it and got bent over.
