Check Engine Light
Just turned 30,000 miles on my coach and had an experience I have not had before. Cruising along at about 40 mph on a beautiful country road when my "Check Engine Light" comes on and the alarm sounds. I hit the button to silence the alarm and the light goes out. Engine seems to be running normally. All gauges reading normal and I'm in a location where it is tough to stop so, I keep going. A few minutes later, same thing happens. This happen about 4 times then stops completely until I reach my destination some 50 miles later.
After parking the coach, I go to the diagnostic screen and check for warnings and fault codes. None show up.
Totally up to date on service and recalls.
Don't really want to go to Cummings service facility if I can't show them a warning or code. Have any of you experienced this? Sure would like to hear from someone with a similar experience and what you found. Thanks

A service center computer read out will read out a whole bunch more information than you can see on the front panel. I would be on the phone to Spartan 800 number and talk to them about what they think is going on with no codes showing.

I had a similar issue with my previous coach on a Cummins ISM. It turned out to be the fan control relay. Did you notice the engine temp at the time the check engine light and alarm came on? Mine would come on at 207 degrees and go away if I lifted off the accelerator and it went back down to 203 degrees. Didn't store any codes either.

I had the same problem on my coach, going over the mountains in CO before the Cummins engine updates. It would show a bogus fault code when the CEL was on, but nothing after the light went off. Cummins did their computer magic and the problem is gone. If it is a CEL with alarm, it is something Cummins computer should be able to diagnose when our dash computers cannot.

Stopped into Cummins in the Cleveland area. They plugged into the system and discovered that I was only 22 updates removed from the latest revision. The faults listed were consistent with not having the newest revision. Being updated at no cost.

Good news Ralph. It is amazing how the lack of updates can cause the problems they do. I leaned that one the hard way too on a brand new coach on it's first trip.

Last year I was 12 updates behind. Guess I need to check again at the next opportunity

I know I am going to check each year, it's no charge while under warrant, and it was $99. after warranty on my last MH.. After the improvements on my last update(s) I will have those done before annual oil changes.
