Classic Coach (Pre2016) Headlight Question

Has anyone upgraded their headlights on a Pre-2016 CLASSIC Entegra Coach. Our headlights on our 2015 Anthem are weak, and in serious need of upgrade. Please don't tell me what you did to your pickup truck or to any newer Entegra that doesn't apply. Thank you,
Jim

Have you checked the alignment of the lights? I could not see anything at night on our 2015 then adjusted them and it made a huge difference, I still want more light but it is better.hopefully some one will share a real upgrade we can use.

I have a headlight burned out right now in my 2015 and I think I may try OPT7 LED bulbs... really pricy but from what I've read here our "older" coaches are notorious for bad, weak and misadjusted lighting. If I go LED, I will report back here and let you know.

Your profile says you have a Monico. I'm only interested in Entegra. Do you need to update the profile?

Jim, I don't know if you have checked the headlight alignment as Tom mentioned, but the Classics were great for no headlight alignment. Several post regrading shining everywhere but the center of the road. Thanks to this post, I found mine were way out of alignment before I ever used the headlights. First time I used them after adjusting they were fine. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/head...le-223967.html

I too have been looking for an improvement over what I have. I’ve adjusted the headlights and it is an improvement in visibility, but LED are far superior, in my opinion. The current bulbs fog up and look unsightly, plus are not too bright.

Ok...so I purchased and received the OPT7 LED kit. I attempted to install today but gave up on it for 3 reasons.
#1 the wire bail that holds the bulb in the fixture is not able to clip around the heat sink/fan without excessive bending and I don't know how securely it would hold if bent out of shape.
#2. The dust cover that keeps water and dirt out of the assembly will not work as the LED heat sink must be open to the air. I'm not keen on chopping the existing cover and I didn't order another style that might work.
#3. The wiring harness provided with the bulb kit is using spade terminals for all connection points...my factory connections are barrel type,so I'd need to adapt the wiring to work.

I think i will revisit this when home where conditions are better for modifications.Click image for larger version

Headlights

This is one of the many problems i had with the factory. I told them the headlights are as good as a candle in a can. I plan on putting a brighter bulbs in my coach as soon as I can. I drive at night & have lots of deer in out area. I don’t want have venison that way.

Have any of you ever put a voltmeter on the headlights while they are operating? Many motorhomes have low voltage to the headlights due to high resistance wiring paths. I was able to vastly brighten the stock headlights on my Beaver just by rewiring the light circuit with a relay to upgrade the wiring path and bring up the voltage.

Do you remember what your before and after voltage readings were?

Ok.... here are my voltage readings on my 2015

No low beams hooked up :

Driver 13.30 vdc
Passenger 13.30 vdc

Passenger low beam hooked up :

Driver 13.0 vdc
Passenger. 12.48 vdc

Both low beams hooked up:

Driver 12.45 vdc
Passenger 12.37 vdc

Readings taken with the standard H1 halogen bulbs.

Coach is on 50 amp shore power with engine off.... not real conditions but it's hard to convince my wife to get readings while I'm driving...so it'll have to do...
Does the voltage drop seem excessive ?

Hard to say, but as I recall my Beaver had less than 12V at the headlights when they were on.
