Closet light switch...new question to old problem

The new coach has the problem closet photo sensor switch that has a mind of it own turning on when it wants to.

Entegra sent a new switch, it doesn't work at all. Trying to get it replaced was close to working with a politician, "we don't have problems with those" however there are lots of post that disagree.

Used this switch on my previous coach installing closet LEDS, worked great

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...c=1&pldnSite=1

What have others done that has worked? Hope to hear from others that used the above switch and if it wired OK. Now that I can get it on Prime and not have to wait on China, this might be the way to go.

I thought that my switch had a mind of its own on this 19 Cornerstone and was concerned until I realized that the phantom turning on and off at night was actually produced by my cats walking around in the aft bathroom and occassionally climbing in and out of the clothes closet (they love to spend time in the closet (so much interest in getting into the clothes closet that DW and I now call it the "Magic Castle")) and their excursions around the bathroom and in and out of the closet was the stimulus that turned my light on and off "spontaneously".

Chuck.... do you travel with any 4 legged creatures?

Our 2018 had a mind of its own and would randomly go on and off. NIRVC and Entegra discovered other voltage on the circuit was causing the issue. The switch was replaced 7 times before I finally gave up and went to magnetic switches. When The 2019 started coming on with the doors closed, I thought not again! But I noticed that it actually only came on when someone was moving in the bedroom. I noticed that I could see the switch through the slit at the top of the sliding door and realized it was doing its job. I put a piece of tape on the back of the “eye”, now it only comes on when the door is opened!

Thanks Garys, ours has been coming on in the middle of the night when all are asleep. Wake up to the closet light shining and staying on for hours. I will change the switch one more time, in hopes of getting a good one, try the tape and see if that works, or try the Amazon switch

Yeah, Chuck, sounds like the switch is bad. The switch that they use has a timing adjustment but not a sensitivity adjustment. If you buy a switch elsewhere and install it yourself, make sure you get one with a sensitivity adjustment.

Not sure if that's time or sensitivity, I'll have to check. It is a time adjustment. I used this switch in the Classic and it worked perfect, but there might be an Entegra switch that works perfect too.

Hey Chuck, if that one worked for you before, who am I to say! You can always adjust the sensitivity with a piece of tape! Worked for me!
Btw, according to the questions section of that switch, the dial is for time.

Does that sensor shut the light off with time or do you push a button to turn the light iff?

I had this problem, closet light turned on by itself and did not turn off. Replaced 3 sensors Entegra sent to no solution. Bought the one Chuck got and when installing it discovered coach had been wrongly wired at the sensor. All sensors are now good including the one that came originally with coach. My suggestion - get the four black wires of the sensor separated so that you can check if any wrong wiring is causing the problem. Pay attention to diagram on the sensor's back. For my 18 coach :
In to sensor white is -
Blue/red is +
Out of sensor to light is
Black -
Gray +
Be carefull when pulling the harness out of the ceiling to avoid any cable disconnect and stay on the other side. The hard part is to pass all 4 connectors via that small hole.
A little bit of contorting skills help as the light is right behind the doors and not easy to work. But perfectly doable.

Chuck, I got tired of fooling around and simply wired the closet light to the nearest bathroom ceiling light.

I couldn’t see why I would want the closet light on without the bath lights. I don’t care if the closet light comes on when the bath lights are on.

Simple 5 minute solution. I need to give Rob credit with the suggestion.

Tony, I was going up to check the wiring with a volt meter tomorrow while the one switch is "kind of" working. Glad you confirmed that. The switch has + and - on the back, so checking with a volt meter will be easier that pulling the wire out of the ceiling.

Thanks to the others for their input. The Amazon switch is ordered. It worked perfect on the Anthem, so I have more faith in it than the factory switches from all the comments. If the factory switch is miswired, I can always find an LED project to use the other switch on.

Chuck, we had the same problem. I tapped into the wiring and installed a resistor, as described in a post a few months ago (sorry, not where I can find/provide a link).

The light has worked perfectly since the installation. Thanks,

BG

Some enjoy modern features. I added motions sensor switches to the closets of our S&B. It's nice not to have to fumble for a switch in the dark.
