I will be retiring next year and my wife and I can't wait to start our adventures in the coach. We are brand new to RVing so we have much to learn. I've been following this forum quite a bit for the last year now and have picked up a fair amount of knowledge, however; I suspect our first few trips will likely be good amusement for the seasoned folks .
We will be driving our Jeep Wrangler down to ATL, hopefully the 1st week of February and staying at NIRVC for a few nights to gather as much education as possible. We will then be headed west to Scottsdale AZ. We plan to spend the better part of a week to get over there staying as far south as possible.
My questions are: 1.) Any suggested routes? 2.) Can anyone make any recommendations for RV parks along the way? 3.) Suggestions relating to web sites or aps for finding/getting info on RV parks would be appreciated.
Thank you all for your time and insights. We look forward to meeting you at some point.

Hi Doug & Renee,
We have been traveling I-10 for the last 8 years back and forth between central Florida and Prescott, AZ. Three of those years we went back and forth twice, so that makes 11 round trips (or 22 x 2,200mi) overall. My preferences are:
a) always stop at a campground - a 45' motorhome is more comfortable on level ground and with shore power/water/sewer
b) traveling with your wife and fury friends requires many more stops than you'd make if you're driving alone. So, making 300 miles per day is usually my max, but I'm willing to settle for 250 if needed.
c) My route from ATL would be I-20 to I-55 to I-12 to I-10 all the way to Phoenix (avoid New Orleans unless you just want "confusing" the GPS and yourself).
d) Get the MyPilot and MyLoves apps for your phone so you know where your fuel stops will be.
e) Get a Pilot/Flying J credit card from
www.rvpluscard.com (you have to be a Good Sam member) which will get you discounted fuel prices - payment is a montly draft from your bank account. They just notify you that you've "paid" a few days before they do the draft. E-Z
f) Going cross country I like to stop for a few days either in San Antonio (Traveler's World) or Kerrville (Buckhorn Lake RV Resort) and relax, go out to dinner at nice restaurants and be a tourist rather than just a highway spectator.
g) From Kerrville or San Antonio, after being well rested, I go to Ft. Stockton TX (Hilltop RV or Fort Stockton RV Park). Expect wind at night - it can get very windy and you'll need to bring slides in and lower your satellite dish.
h) Next stop is Hacienda RV Resort in Las Cruces. Dinner is almost always at La Posta Mexican Restaurant in Old Town Mesilla about 2 miles away.
i) I usually stop in Tucson because my home is in Prescott - over 200 miles away. Since you're heading for Phoenix you probably won't want to stop. If you're tired though, Lazydays KOA is a good location. See the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum while you're there.
j) finding RV Parks is pretty easy along the major freeways. I've seen the apps recommended by other forum members which give you plenty of options. I usually just use Google and search "RV Campgrounds in _____" where you put in the city and state. Since you want to see the website with pictures of the RV sites, you eventually have to use a computer to be able to see a decent view of the campground.
By the way, you'll want to complete your profile and signature block so your Entegra "forum buddies" can relate your handle, name, and rig.
Have fun on the journey. Hope to see you on the road.
