When we purchased our coach, we were told the switch to Coleman's were for the noise factor. Not sure which statement is true, but for a fact getting a Coleman when needed is really a chore. We had to detour 400 miles to make the coach comfortable when it was 102, something it looks like George will have to do as well. Our situation was 2 years ago and the supply problem still exists.

Well, it looks like the switch for being quiet is holding true!!! An AC unit that is not working is very quiet.

What about a different ac unit all together ?
Is there anything better and quieter available that will just switch over?
Just saying... if you gotta pay , maybe a better upgraded unit is available..

Not from what the dealers told me. The Coleman's are suppose to be the "latest and greatest" and why none of the supply houses have them in stock....they are to new to break, so they are not stocked. They have all of the 10 year old Dometics a person could want in stock, but no Colemans.

I asked Joyce that question yesterday ( can I switch to a different manufacturer like Dometic ) she said I would have to change everything, wiring, tstats and it wouldn't be worth it.
She told me today that they're short on the production line also on the Coleman units.
Maybe Coleman will have plenty over the winter!!!!!!!

It does make one wonder where the point of origin for parts are? Sure sorry you are having to experience that George.

Defective AC Coils Class Action

I started doing some research due to losing 3 air conditioners on the 2014 Entegra Anthem which does appear premature. I did find a Class Action Case Dickerson, et al. v. York International Corporation, et al., Case No. 1:15-CV-01105-CCC, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania due to defective coil tubing supplied to numerous Air Conditioner companies including Coleman. I wonder if this information has anything to do with the decreased production and or availability of replacement units for the RV. To add to the craziness of the situation the house in FL has 2 AC's which also have had coil freon leak issues and the units are 3 years old! I have been extremely upset over this issue as all of these AC failures are odd! I appreciate the humor of 737driver and support of Joyce and our other Entegra members!

Good research Judy. I have a feeling as many of the Coleman RV units that have failed, the copper falls in the same category. Bad news with class actions, I just received partial payment for my Norcold refrigerator that failed 14 years ago. A known bad product but the manufacture fought it in court instead of taking care of the problem....sad.

I too wonder this. I have a 2019 Tiffin Phaeton and have the plus model. I will head up to the roof and see if the fan goes into low mode or stays on high no matter what like the older models.

Rob

The fans on my Mach 8 are significantly less noisy than they were on my 15 Anthem, which used to throw off a fairly loud whine when they were running. These three are significantly quieter when running. Have not had a reason yet to pull one apart to note the differences.

Wineman, not sure who you are ordering from. I had to replace my zone 1 also. Mach 8 plus is what I went with. Ordered it from RV Parts Country- on line sales only. Replaced it 3 weeks ago myself. Received it in 3 days.. Hope it helps. Also they had the best price I could find.

Oh, I forgot to add for the quietness. Yes, it is very quiet. Fact I sometimes feel the vents to see if it is running..

The reason a number of AC units had to be replaced is the mounts for the fan motors were either defective or not built to handle the load. The fan motor would break free and then the plastic fan blade would hit the frame and break. Unit would then see pressures go crazy and shut the unit down. When this would happen Entegra would just replace with a new unit. I do not know how many units Entegra replaced in all but on a friends coach I think he had all of the units replaced twice before he did not have any more problems with them. At one point all 3 units were dead in middle of a Texas summer.

The earlier Colemans did have a lot of new model manufacturing problems. I went through the same thing Wineman did. We both had units go out in SD when it was over 100* We both had to detour to get units replaced as many were going out but too new for dealers to keep in stock. Weak solder joints on the coils as Winemanslady found out, and as Turbojack said bad mounting bolts. The newer units I was told had the hush kits that Voltdoc posted a few years ago. Hopefully the newer units have all the "new model" bugs worked out.

Sadly, Wineman sold their MH after that trip. Their first long trip and they had everyone of the 14 bugs on that trip. Wineman still watches the forum from time to time hoping to see the bugs go away to hopefully purchase again in the future.
