Custom Orders

Ordered new Anthem at the Perry show. Received new coach in Atlanta in October. Spoke with Pat Carroll for two hours at the show regarding turning the cooktop vertical and OFF CENTER like it is in the 2013 Anthem. Pat said No problem however it will require a $500.00 up charge. I also cleared this with Ken Walters and Tad Jenkins. As you can see from the photo the factory turned it vertically but put it the center. Needless to say this did not go well with my wife. It was the one change she wanted. I made the mistake of not calling and being a pain in the ass to Pat and Ted Cook. I called Joyce, she spoke with Ken Walters and he told her that the factory will not make this right since it was a custom order. The point is if you make any custom changes, be RELENTLESS, be a MAJOR pain, ride there ass till it raw. It's a great coach and I'm glad they are finally willing to make some custom changes.
By the way, I told Pat to leave the window awnings off and put them in the basement. They left them off, lost them and then sent them a month later.

I also found if there is not a set of blue prints for a custom request, you are going to get pot luck. The upcharges are insane. I added an RF Mogul Sat cable which I purchased from RF Mogel. At Perry( no names mentioned) I was told around $200. up charge.....fine. I received my finished coach settlement, $750 to have the sat cable run with the other sat cables. If you want custom features, Entegra is not the place to have it done.....JME. That still leaves a bad taste in my mouth $750, to run another brand sat cable that cost Entegra nothing with no extra work. Learned my lesson he hard way

Having spoken to both Pat and Ken about changes, Ken being the sales guy, seems to welcome some customization. On the other hand, it seems that Pat is less than welcoming to the idea.

Considering that many of the ďstandardĒ Entegra assemblies arenít consistent from one coach to another itís not surprising that a customization, especially one thatís verbal, didnít go right. A drawing is an absolute must in cases like this, but after a lifetime in engineering I know that even drawings can be mis-interpreted or ignored. To ensure a critical change like yours is correct Iíd want to be on the floor at Entegra (or the subcontractor), supervising, when the hole was being cut in the countertop.

I know from anecdotes from friends that even Newmar, known for customization, makes mistakes on orders and leaves custom items ordered off some builds. So, RV customization on production-built coaches can be a crap shoot wherever you go.

Custom changes are hard to get right and easy to overlook, which explains why Entegra for years refused to do them. Since they historically did not do special changes, is is not surprising that they donít have a good system for doing them. I agree that the best way to ensure these changes are done right is to oversee them personally.
