This is my setup. The canister I got from a water conditioning company in Tucson and It has a refillable cartridge. I have added shut offs on both ends of the system, one where the supply hose attaches and one where the wand attaches. This allows me to trap the treated water in the system and save water. Also it allows me to unhook the supply hose to do the first rinse then re-attach to do the final rinse. In this manner I can work my way around the coach doing sections at a time. I get about 5 washes per cartridge fill. The wand has worked well I can reach to the top of the coach and do a top-down rinse which also saves treated water.

Nice easy to put together system Robert. Having put together several hand held DI units, there is not that much to to them to warrant a price of $450 when the major cost is the price of the resin. I am going to put one together like yours to be able to use it with my pressure washer for final rinse. Thanks for sharing yours.

Where did you pick up your canister stand?

Gary, the rvtransformers website is Glenn's (Our Great Escape ā€“ Because you only live once! blog pages).

CRSpotless has recently had a significant price change on cartridges and also has some type of replacement subscription program. They are also coming out with a new style unit, www.simplechuck.com.

Thank you Robert and thanks to this post I am going to put another DI rinse system, like yours, together with a "Y" connection at the pressure washing to run both tap water and DI water without changing hoses. I want to build a one station coach washing system that is easy to store. I like your compact unit made with simple parts that works the same as the Big Boys.

Just ordered and purchased the fittings to make the smaller DI system like Roberts. I elected for the clear cartridge house to see the resin changing color, $14.90. The refillable cartridge for the DI resin $9.19 and the Camco stand for the filter housing $17.99.
Funny the RV filter stand is the most expensive item How nuts is that.
All from Amazon for a total of $42.08 with free Prime shipping. The resin I already have.

Brass shut offs, quick disconnects and a large Y connector at Walmart, $17.40. Total for a DIY DI unit large enough to use with my pressure washer. $59.48 Small enough to store easily and economical to refill the resin.

Thanks to Doggie Daddy and Palehorse for the ideas and listing the parts needed. Also had fun reading the old posts on DI units.

Chuck, I have a concern about rinsing with a pressure washer. Have you did any study of the through of the washer. Would it over burden the DI canister? Also does a pressure washer do a better rinsing job than a fine spray? When I picked up my canister from Water-Tec the guy did a whole calculation of how much water it would take to cover the exterior of the coach with a 16th of an inch of water to determine of the canister could handle it. I explained to him how I would dispense the water as a fine spray and told me to keep it slow. Just wondering if you'd thought about that. You are pretty thorough.

Good points Robert. I bought a 1.2 gallon a minute pressure washer with the adjustable nozzle with a fine spray just for that reason. With the fine spray I would be using probably less the .5 gallon a minute and be able to move much faster than with my current stick. I will be very surprised if it does not work every bit as good as the stick, just faster. With my stick, I use the on and off valve to control the water flow over the resin. I'll do the same with the small pressure washer. I am anxious to try it and I'll let you know.

There is no way I would try to use it with my 2500 PSI 2.5 gallon a minute pressure washer, that I know would over work the resin.

According to their web site, 1.25 lbs to fill a 10 inch cartridge. X 4 for 2, 20 inch cartridges would be 5 lbs.

Here are the two places, in addition to CR Spotless, that seem to be good possibilities. If someone has already tried these alternate systems, sure would appreciate hearing your experience.

Has anyone tried any of these modifications?
