It's been suggested in a different thread:
iRV2 Forums > RV SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGIES FORUMS > Technology: Internet, TV, Satellite, Cell Phones, etc. Local Direct TV channels
that by requesting a SERVICE address in the metropolitan NYC area, your "local" channels would be the same as those broadcast for the DNS channels. It was further suggested that those "local" NYC metropolitan channels are, in fact, NOT spot beamed like typical "local" channels. Instead, they are beamed to the entire country. In essence, your "local" NYC metropolitan channels for your SERVICE address will be received anywhere in the country.
I HAVE NOT CONFIRMED THIS. Please don't blame me if it doesn't work. I'm just relaying what has been suggested on another thread.
Take care,
Stu

One other caveat at least with DISH. I have DISH at the S&B but work from the road a lot with my Winegard G2 while the wife is still at home. With DISH if I change the 'service' address then it changes it for ALL of the equipment both Mobile and S&B. You can hear the wife on the phone when her shows didn't record during the day since the house thought it was in Nebraska. Only way to split them is to have two accounts and instead of a $7 per month for the trailer it would be the full amount of another account.
You would think that since each receiver can be controlled with it's unique address that a split situation would work but no that's just not possible.

Your Genie will be happy and can record all preset programs on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PS, and CW.
If you want local news then your Batwing will give you those. If you want to record local OTA then get a DirecTV AM21 and add it to your Genie.

Complete agreement from me.

After my experience last summer, I would gladly pay the $15. a month not to go through the hassle when we travel. To bad Dish no longer offers DNS.

I full time and the $15.00/month for network channels is well worth it for me. My Genie is always set for the correct channels and I haven't talked with DirecTV for any reason in years.

We took delivery of our Anthem mid November and the dealer wanted $250 for 1 receiver installed and set up. I declined !
I called DirecTV and spent almost 2 hours on the phone being transferred 7 -8 times before giving up. I remembered some paperwork from Winegard with our Anthem so I called them and in less then 15 minutes was all set ! We received our receiver 3 days later and with a 10 minute phone call back to Winegard had Directv service and have a $150 Winegard rebate coming 😄😄.

The whole point of DNS is that there are no local stations. Since you have no fixed address, what local station would have to approve?
DNS is especially valuable if you use DVR's as there is no need to change your recording settings when you move. The channel numbers do not change as you move from place to place, so your scheduled recorded programs automatically continue to record.

Marc, just curious, are the DNA feeds for DirectTV available in HD?

We been getting locals channels since around 2007 and never had a problem, we always ask to change service address only.

RAG FTW is right. We have had DirecTV for nearly 20 years in our S&B at the same location. Some years back we opted to be billed through CenturyLink in a discounted package with our telephone and internet so we would receive only one bill. Last week we had an issue with accessing our DirecTV account on-line. This was the first time calling the "new" DirecTV service center. It was then that we discovered to difference between the courteous, friendly, helpful, even cheerful DirecTV representatives and AT&T's "it's our way or the highway" representatives. What a frustrating 25 minutes for me trying to get them to understand that all I wanted to do was sign in as I have done for many years now, and no, I did not want to change my ID or password simply because DirecTV (and its website) is now owned by AT&T. I hang my head in disgust, but I finally relented and changed my ID and password.
AT&T knows the FCC cannot legislate quality of service.

Yeeee-haw! Ring the bell! Drinks for the house!
Been having some issues with our well used genie. Called DirecTV last night and got connected to a very helpful tech person. She couldn't solve my problem but connected me with a sales person who understood my problem, was sympathetic to my frustrations, and agreed to send me an upgraded genie if I would pay the $21.00 shipping. This entire process took less than 15 minutes and included running a system test. When all was said and done I mentioned to the young lady that she must be an old DirecTV person and not "Now part of the AT&T family"! She just chuckled and said, "There are still a few of us around."
I know this is kind of off topic but just didn't want to pass up one last opportunity to say something nice about DirecTV.
I'm "Now part of the AT&T family" but not at all happy about it!

I just signed on to my Directv account for the first time in months using my old username and password with no issue. I wonder if they are rolling out these updates slowly vs all at one time? I am convinced AT&T can't handle it well no matter now they do it.

Since you have DirecTV why not do the DNS forms and get national network channels out of LA or NYC area? I mean, why spend all that money on Aspirin and blood pressure meds when you can spend it on TV instead?

We left DTV in our sticks & bricks when we sold out. Go with over the air TV. Have Sirius/XM radio for those remote places that have no OTA TV signal available. Will also stream a thing or two. e.g. Kentucky Derby last year.
