Dish TV Receivers
We have Dish in the S&B and have used it in the coach for 4 years with a dome and VIP211Z. The dome can't tune more than one channel at a time so the 211 worked for us. We have a Hopper w/Sling in the S&B and have gotten used to all the recording and viewing options.
We are getting a Traveler and want to upgrade the receiver. As discussed before the Hopper 3 is not directly compatible with the Traveler, in fact Winegard flat stated it won't work (I know some wizards on the forum have gotten it to work). I had decided on a non-3 Hopper w/Sling but a discussion with a Dish tech today has me wondering. He said a VIP612 or 722 has 2 tuners so we can record a channel other than the one we're watching. He also said they can be connected to another TV without a Joey. We rarely watch the bedroom TV and only watch the outside TV for games. If we got a Hopper we probably wouldn't get a Joey and would have to watch the other TVs on the OTA antenna or park cable. Sling feature isn't big for us either.
Please let me know what receiver you use if you're a Dish customer.
Thanks!

We have a couple of 612s and get along great with them. Can record 2 shows in the bedroom while recording one in the living room and watching a fourth channel. Got more stored than we can watch![emoji2].

Yup, our 612 from our S&B goes with us if we'll be on the road more then one week. The 612 also has an OTA input so you can connect the Rayzar and record OTA programs along with Sat. The 612 will also work with an RF remote control so you can control it from out side when using the patio TV.

Vance take a look at the information at https://rvseniormoments.com/tech-docs/. Hopper 3 is compatible with DISH/Traveler but see the information from Tom.

Love my Dish Hopper3 with a Joey in the bedroom. Great device. Works great in my Entegra with the exception of my Winegard Travlr seek problems. Hope to publish a thread in October when I changeout my antenna to RF Mogul. I could install another Joey outside on patio tv but for right now I just use HDMI splitter to parrot the main TV.

Hopper 3 for sure, avoid older Hoppers as they are a bit slow with the latest software. Many advantages such as wireless Joey, 16 tuners, available dual OTA tuners, RF remotes, massive DVR storage, etc.
The solution to the Winegard/Hopper 3 incompatibility is simply to unplug the coax from the receiver during Winegard sat aquisition. Install an A/B switch and it is a simple thing to disconnect/reconnect.
Admittedly the upgrade to the required Dish Pro Hybrid LNB on the Winegard can seem intimidating but it isn't as bad as it sounds and IMO it is well worth the little bit of effort to get that one time job done.
I think I would be switching to Direct before going with one of the old tech DISH receivers.
BTW if you are a long time DISH subscriber and out of contract, Hopper3 is a no cost upgrade, just make sure you talk to an "Account Specialist" and not the standard sales team. We got the Hopper3, free installation, all fees waived and even a monthly fee reduction (new customer rate). The rep also suggested I buy a wireless Joey for $35 (instead of lease) so it could be activated/deactivated as needed saving the $7/mo, it even came with it's own router. We only use our Joey on rare occasions but is available to activate with a quick phone call if we want it.

You no longer need to change the LNBF head of the Trav'ler to a DPH Hybrid unit to have a Hopper 3. The better solution is the Dish DPH42 switch. The DPH42 creates the Hybrid signals from the standard DPP Trav'ler head.
With the DPH42 Switch, you do not need to disconnect the Hopper 3 while seeking satellites.
The DPH42 does need all three coax cables from the Trav'ler as inputs. If all three coax cables are not into the RV, then the DPH42 can be located on the roof at the base of the Trav'ler and the switch output enters the RV.
The cost is comparable, the DPH Hybrid Head is about $50 and the DPH42 Switch is about $80.

A week ago a Dish tech suggested 612 or 722. Now when I call or chat they refuse to sell me a 612. They say it isn't compatible with my set up in the S&B, when I say it's for an RV they say it's not compatible in an RV. I could buy one elsewhere but I have read numerous cases where a Dish refused to activate a receiver that wasn't purchased from them. For now I will stay with my VIP 211Z and external hard drive while in I consider moving to Direct. (My Traveler is Direct and modified to Dish so I can go back to Direct)

Folk lore amid Dish CSRs is that DVRs are not functional in RVs. Like a lot of folk lore, it is hard to change it.
The issue on the home account is that on Hopper accounts, other receivers are not allowed with the exception of a purchased VIP211 or a Wally. There are marketing issues and that is the rule.
If you want the Dish account to be live in the S&B while using Dish in the RV, then you are limited to the VIP211/Walley. Otherwise, you have a two account situation with a full range of receivers available for the RV along with a second subscription.
If you do not need the S&B to be live, skip all the business about an RV and just take your home equipment with you.
We are full-timers and have a Hopper 3 and two Joeys that we switch between the Bounder and the Travel Supreme.

I neglected to add above that I told the agent I know of several people using 612s in RVs with great success and satisfaction, their response was they never heard of that and would love to know more. I think it all depends on the luck of who you get on the phone.

this might be helpful it might not.
I had dish network (recently got rid of it due to cutting costs at home) and i had a few times when I wanted to watch tv in the motorhome. I bought an amazon fire stick and with the help from my mobley wireless hotspot I can use the fire stick on my tvs in the motorhome. BUT recently I wanted to watch live tv of a football game while in my motorhome and couldn't get it on my antenna no matter what i tried.
I then had a thought. Download the Dish network app (dishanywhere) to my tv or firestick and boom. I had full range of my programming and hopper right there on my tv via the mobley providing the internet stream, and the firestick providing the dish anywhere app.
Its glorious. no need for the sat dish set up and running cables everywhere. just turn on the tv and click the app. I highly recommend trying this free service out if you already have dish network. its simple and easy to use. just log in, and you can watch anything that is on your dvr at your home and live tv shows. I really am going to miss dish network.

That is not true about refusing to activate, UNLESS it was a leased receiver and you bought it from someone. I just activated a receiver a week ago that I bought used with a dish too. They run the SN on the receiver to be sure it isn't on a lease.
