Do I need new LP detector?

Lately my LP detector has been going off when I enter my RV barn. I reset it and it keeps going off. I've tried blowing it out with air compressor, running zone 2 fan on high while gone, but it still goes off a lot. I don't hear or smell any propane. I don't have a noticeable drop in propane. The coach is 3 years old and these are supposed to last 5 years, but would yall guess that mine has gone defective?Click image for larger version

Now that you mentioned it, mine has been beeping when I first open up the MH and I don't have LP. I figured it was from the heat being closed up, but now you have given me another thought.....defective.

Yep, sounds like it needs to be replaced. Ours did the same thing and Entegra replaced it when we went to Middlebury.

Definitely replace it. It's a first warning device! If the new one still goes off, you know you have a real situation that needs more in depth investigation.

Ours did the same and then stopped working completely. Bought a temporary battery operated one until we received the new one from Entegra. Don't mess around with this one!!

Our CO detector did not work at all when we first got the coach. In fact neither did the smoke detector. The smoke detector still had the manufacturer tape over the terminals and the CO detector did not have the fuse installed in the front drivers compartment. So much for PDI checks.

On our Allegro Bus the propane detector was located beneath the residential fridge. I dropped a cup of water once while filling it from the in-door dispenser and it splashed a little bit into the LP detector. That set it off and no amount of drying could ever get it to work again so I had to replace it. They are quite touchy and once they get a whiff of too much hair spray, water or whatever they are toast.

I talked to Jacob in CS about mine going off in the heat with the coach closed up and that is normal of the new CO detectors. It was explained to me that the new detectors are much more sensitive than the older ones I am use to. Almost any kind of "strange" air will set them off or they chirp like mine does when it's hot and the MH has been closed up.

They seldom fail but sure get replaced a lot first it is not a LP detector it detects flammable vapor any vapor it does not know the difference between LP and a dog fart. The CO side is nearly as dumb in a new coach you have lots of new materials getting to know each other and gassing off as the adhesives cure and such.

In a older unit you also have the joy of voltage issues the sensor has to maintain correct voltage at all times. There are times when the voltage is off that things that normally would never bother it suddenly set it off. Because as the voltage varies so does the sensitivity.

That is just what CS said, mine is new enough that it is still curing and "gassing in the FL heat, more so that cooler climates. Opening a couple of windows for cross ventilation should also help.
