Door Ideas For 44R
Hey y'all,
Been a lurker for a while but not a huge poster.
I just recently got rid of my Discovery 40G and picked up a '18 Aspire 44R. One thing that we liked in the 40G was the ability to close the door from the living room to the bunks.
I was wondering of any of you have modified the 44R to have a door in front of the bunk room, or if you have any ideas on how one could be added. The cleanest way would be to add a pocket door to that wall but I really don't want to tear apart the walls on a brand new coach.
I included a picture of where I would like the door.
Also, if anyone has ideas on how we can get AC vents in the bunks themselves please let me know.

The wall you are looking to put a pocket door in most likely has plumbing stacks/vents running through it. Don't think it will work.

Here is a picture. Only place I se you could hang it would be in front of the bathroom wall maybe build a false wall for doors.

About to put down a deposit on a 44R and I had the same question. Why didn't they put a pocket door there.

I have no clue. Its annoying that there isn't one there. I would like to be able to have that as a separate "room".

Anyone have ideas on how to get AC into the bunks? Also a feature that should have been added in the initial build.

Jason, my wife loves the 40G floor plan bc of the "room" and still walk thru the bathroom too. I like the 44R bc of all the Entegra specs. In addition to the possible door mod, do you have any other opinions of the two coaches? Thanks for any info!!

Is there not a vent in that hall in front of the bath door? Next to bunks?

Maybe some with the 44R can confirm, but the floor plan shows a gap between the pantry and bunks. Maybe a sliding tri-fold would work.
Others mentioned that there is too much decorative trim to maneuver around when the slides are closed so the tri might work.

Jason, congrats.
Second, the A/C thing is very unlikely to work for any economically reasonable amount of money.
So, what to do?
Remove the bi-fold doors.
On my brand new coach?
Yup, absolutely. Best move ever for ventilation and to ease access. If the kiddos need privacy, a curtain on a rod will suffice. Ask me how I know!
My wife are actually discussing the use of inexpensive roller blinds that span roughly 2/3 of the bunk opening. One for the upper and one for the lower.
One important thing for upper bunk occupants is the use of a safety net of some kind.
We purchased a net from Fleetwood parts and bought twice the number of anchors, I remember using 10 of the 12 I bought. This system uses hooks to capture the net, and can be easily removed.
Regarding some sort of divider between the hall and the living area, we are considering something but haven't found the answer yet.
Mounting a rolling door on the wall behind the fridge won't work because the slide box is really close to the forward wall of the full bath, and leaves no room for any additional structure.
-Matt

I believe there is only one vent. But if you close the doors on the bunks, it gets very warm in there.

The 44R is hands down a far better coach as far as quality and ride. There are a few thing I do not like about the coach: missing bunk door, the fact that you have to remove the table or crawl over it if the sides are in, and the horrible HDMI multiplex system. I have had the 44R less than a week so I haven't figured out much of it yet. We had far too many issues with the 40G and are just happy to be out of it to be honest.

Concerning the A/C vents. I think they could be added. If you measure the cold air vents distance from the vertical outside walls that should show you where the A/C ducts run among the three AC units. I believe those ducts are continuous. All it would take is buying a replacement vent and cutting the ceiling vinyl & sheeting. You would at least be able to vent into the upper bunk. Check with CS and maybe they have a drawing of how your ducting was run.
