Downhill, WEEE!
So I have noticed when I am going downhill the coach shifts very hard, so much so it knocks everything off the counters, if I engage the jake its worse. This hard jerking will continue for several days reguardless of grade, so I must disable my jake, give the coach gas, disengage cruise, then break . After a few days it will mysteriously vanish till the next 6% grade. Ideas?

Start by checking the transmission fluid using the shift pad method not the dip stick. It mught be low on Transynd.

Umm what is "the shift pad method" I did check the dip stick with the engine running after a long trip... I followed the song and dance in the manual..
A cold check may be made after initial start-up and the presence of transmission
fluid has been confirmed (the sump fluid temperature is then typically 16°–49°C
(60°–120°F). To perform a COLD CHECK, do the following:
1. Start the engine and run it at idle (500–800 rpm) in
N (Neutral) for about one minute.
2. Shift to D (Drive) and then to R (Reverse) to clear the hydraulic circuits of air.
3. Shift to N (Neutral) and leave engine at idle.
4. Move the vehicle to a level surface, put transmission in N (Neutral), and set the parking brake.
5. With the engine idling (500–800 rpm), shift to D (Drive) and then to R (Reverse) to clear air from the hydraulic circuits.
6. Shift to N (Neutral) and leave engine at idle.
7. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Insert the dipstick into the fill tube, pushing down until it stops.
8. Remove the dipstick and observe the fluid level. If the fluid on the dipstickis within the COLD CHECK band, the level is satisfactory. If the fluid level is not within this band, add or drain fluid as necessary to bring the level within the COLD CHECK band.
9. Perform a Hot Check at the first opportunity after normal operating
temperature (71°–93°C; 160°–200°F) is reached.
HOT CHECK
The transmission fluid must be hot to obtain an accurate check, because the
fluid level rises as temperature increases. To perform a HOT CHECK, do the following:
1. Be sure fluid has reached normal operating temperature (71°–93°C;
160°–200°F). If a transmission temperature gauge is not present, check
fluid level when the engine water temperature gauge has stabilized and the
transmission has been operated under load for at least one hour.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface and shift to N (Neutral). Apply the parking brake and allow the engine to idle (500–800 rpm).
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Insert the dipstick into the fill tube, pushing down until it stops.
4. Remove the dipstick and observe the fluid level. The safe operating level is
anywhere within the HOT RUN band on the dipstick.
5. If the level is not within this band, add or drain fluid as necessary to bring
the level within the HOT RUN band.
6. Be sure fluid level checks are consistent. Check level more than once and
if readings are not consistent, check to be sure the transmission breather is
clean and not clogged. If readings are still not consistent, contact your
nearest Allison distributor or dealer.

It's been a few weeks but I believe to check the tranny fluid with it at operating temp you push the Arrow with the + sign and the arrow with the - sign simultaneously and it should give you the reading.

Engage parking brake. With engine running put transmission in neutral, then push up and down arrows simultaneously. The display will tell you if "OK" or if low and how much low. Some will "count down"; my new 4000 is almost instantaneous. Make sure you are on a level surface and give the transmission a couple of minutes after stopping to allow fluid to drain into the pan for an accurate reading. This is all explained in your Allison Manual, if you have one.

Page 69 & 70 of the Allison owners manual. It is much more accurate than the dip stick method and the one preferred by Allison. dlovitt is correct on the method to check the fluid.
If it is not the fluid, it needs to be taken to an Allison dealer and be computer diagnosed. That is one piece of expensive equipment to let go. You don't say what year your coach is, but it's about $20,000 when your warranty is up.
Just checked, the warranty use to be 5 years, however that has been shorten to 2 years on models newer than 2004.

Chuck, I believe the warranty is still 5yrs. Or 200,000 mi. if using fluid conforming to TES 295 specs. Noel

Maybe I read the owners manual incorrect, I will have to look again. Thanks for pointing that out.

The Allison Transmission is nothing a DIY'er can mess with outside of changing the filters and 1/2 of the transmission fluid at a time. That is one piece of expensive equipment that is best left to the professionals.
