Driving around Quartzsite this Morning in the Rain

Didn't really rain that hard surprised at how much standing water here, I guess it
will stop latter today and then maybe some sprinkles later in the week but as of this AM weather show good for the weekend and next week too.

Check out some of the RV show parking area

Desert soils have large amounts of calichi, a naturally concurring composition that has the consistency and properties of concrete. And like concrete it has about the same ability to absorb or pass water as a concrete parking lot. Don't expect to see that water disappear rapidly.

El Niño could deliver Az a wet and snowy winter this year. Be careful!

when you plant trees out here in the Mojave you have to get a backhoe to dig down a couple of feet to bust through any caliche. If not, the tree will send roots down to it, they'll spread out, and at some time in the future a big wind will blow the tree right over.

Go to a nursery or home improvement store out here and you'll find "caliche busters" - long tools you can beat on to bust the stuff up when hand digging.

Just make sure you have a lot of arm strength, a lot of time, and a lot of patience. A big strong 17 year old grandson really is the first requirement.
